Code 50 and Backing Tracks

Hi all, I am thinking about a bit of a sideline to my main band for when the other guys aren't available to gig. Do you think its feasible to solo gig to backing tracks using just a Marshall Code (mine is a 50)? By this I mean mostly instrumental tracks by the likes of Peter Green, Jeff Beck, Hendri...

Re: Pentatonic Shapes/Modes

Also know that a Pentatonic scale is considered to be a Natural scale with 2 notes removed, to make it more melodic. The minor pentatonic for example is a natural minor scale with the 2nd and 6th notes removed. The notes which are left are still named the same as if they were in a natural 7 note sc...

Re: Pentatonic Shapes/Modes

So I guess learn the individual shapes and then jam some, for example, G backing tracks using position 2, and then 3, etc... Then look at moving between the positions as part of the same solo?

Thanks!

Re: Dead Daisies

Saw the Dead Daisies at the weekend. Absolutely stunning. The current lineup features three ex Whitesnake members including Doug Aldrich. Amazing opening song 'Midnight Moses' from over 40 years ago by Alex Harvey. If they land anywhere near you, check 'em out. Album due soon I believe. Hey burnsy,...

Fitliken

Hi guys, It's been a long time since I've been here but I've got a bit more free time now so I'm hoping to get back involved again! My new band are called Fitliken and we've been out and gigging for just under a year. We do mainly classic rock covers but have some more modern stuff in there (Metalli...

Pentatonic Shapes/Modes

Hi guys, I've been working recently to take my playing "out of the box" as it were, e.g. with modes or the different pentatonic shapes. They all seem to make a lot of sense. However, what is the 'best' way to memorise these things? Obviously I don't want to memorise the "box" patterns/shapes as that...

EHX LPB-1

Anyone have any experience with the Electro-Harmonix Linear Booster?

Have read a lot of threads about hitting the VM with a booster and wondered how this particular one did.

Re: Order of Effects

I agree with the proposed order, except IIRC Hendrix sometimes put the fuzz first in front of the wah. I have fooled around with this, and it does give you some crazy control using the guitar volume pot. Think "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" intro and intro lead where you can hear the guitar volume ...

Re: Tremolo Pedal in VM Effects Loop?

I use a T-Rex tremster with my VM. In front of the amp, not in the loop though.

Choosing a Key

Hey guys, So I'm being forced to re-evaluate how improvise solos yet again. I used to think it was the case that you could quite safely use the key denoted by chords I and V (i.e. playing in key of A, use A minor or E minor). This worked quite well for a few years. Then I heard that it should key de...
