Marshall Catalogue 2012
Well the new Marshall 2012 catalogue (with the unreleased 2012 DSL) still has the JMD in it. Doesn't sound discontinued to me.

That is a interesting pedal and should do what you want. I would try it in front of the amp before trying the loop. Yes, the loop setting matters, I would try both but the -10 should work best. I would like to affect the overall gain as little as possible, so it makes more sense to put in the loop....
