Re: Impedance Mismatch / 8ohm amp to 16ohm cab (less ohm IRL

The quick question is: Is it dangerous (for the amplifier) to set a 12W amplifier to 8ohm and connect it to a 16ohm cabinet. I would've agreed with that statement until a couple of months ago when Beck-Ola said that this is completely false and safely mismatching impedance can only be done in the *...

Re: Did I screw up?

It's all good. :chill

Just hate to know that someday, somewhere a guy is going to blow his amp up from following the wrong advice that he read somewhere on the internet that it's safer to go upwards than downwards in a mismatch. :bang

At least it won't be on me. Take care. :truce

Re: Vintage Tweed tone

Sounds great! Especially when the main riff begins.

Hadn't heard "Monkey Man" in a while. Gonna have to pick up a copy of Let It Bleed. Used to have it on vinyl.

Good playing, man. Like the simplicity of your board too! :Thumbs

Re: AFD100 sold

Still think the AFD is a great amp. But after using it and comparing it to other Marshalls it really has a bit more trebly and thinner sound than the more classic Marshall tone. Just like Slash tone wich i´ve never been a big fan of just because of it lacking body. Shitstorm approaching in 3..2..1....

Re: Did I screw up?

I'm to understand when you say 'greater load' it means *less* ohms when talking about this, I may be completely wrong about this Greater load means *more* ohms, not less. For example, 16 ohms is a greater load than an 8 ohm. :Cheers Naw, Beck caught me with my pants down and took a picture and post...

Re: Did I screw up?

The cabinet ohms always should be equal to or greater then the amp ohms. :bs Epic fail. :wtf about that is wrong? I run my heads at 16ohms into 16ohms cabinets but I have also ran the head at 8ohms into a 16ohm cabinet, no problem. Are you saying this is wrong? :wtf about that is wrong, you ask? Ju...

Re: Did I screw up?

The cabinet ohms always should be equal to or greater then the amp ohms. Not necessarily. Do some reading beyond the forums. "Best to stick to articles by pros for the most part, not that there aren't lots of very helpful and informative guys on the forums, but you know how that is, with lots of st...

Re: solo: Pedal or High dynamic?

If I am an LDR, I would use the guitar volume or a pedal depending on what type of music I am playing. For example, if I am doing a slow blues, it would be the guitar volume. If I was doing something more rock and roll, it would be a pedal. If I am in HDR, I would use the volume pot. This requires ...

Re: Question about half stack placement

Hmmm.... I Think that the problem is mainly standing waves. But how i can fix this? placing my amp in the middle of the room?, creating bass traps or something else that muffles low end?. Or will it help if i throw some extra carpets on the floor and foam on the walls?. If possible, get the amp off...

Re: YJM compared to JTM45/100

Far out! Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo and Hocus Pocus in the same clip. On their own like that I sure preferred the JTM. Nice and rich. I can see how the YJM could sound pretty good and cut well in a mix too. Just my 2 pennies. Thanks for doing the clips. Good job on describing the setup used. Do some...

Re: Question about half stack placement

Not at all in your head. The room size and materials make a dramatic difference. If you're getting too much reflection in your basement you can put some wall hangings or wood paneling on the concrete, even an acoustic spray could help in deadening out the excessive reflections. Also try turning your...

Re: Did I screw up?

Everything appears to be in good working order so this lesson wasn't necessarily learned the hard way. Having played combos all my life it never dawned on me that a simple hook up was so critical. Beck-Ola, Your post shows me that I've got a lot still to learn, any recommedation on resource materia...

Re: Vintage Modern 2.0

Ok, I love my Vintage Modern, make no mistake, but these are my modest wishes: -) Separate volume controls for LDR and HDR (yes, I know this isn't a two channel amp). -) Footswitch control for the Effects Loop, like on the JMD and JVM. Could ditch the reverb switch but I like the reverb itself fine....

Re: Different single power tubes in MA50H?

Hello all! So im in a slight power tube dilemma. As some of you know I'm a big KT77 fan. For the past few months I've been trying out some 6CA7s, and have been pretty happy. Problem is, I love how the KT77 breaks up, but I also quite like the fatness offered by the 6CA7. Seeing as the MA50 allows f...
