Re: Biasing DSL 100

Thanks surf, i will give both values a try and see if there is any difference. I would like to have it as hot as possible without putting the valves or the amp in danger. The tone that fella has in the clip above really excites me, hope to get in the ballpark with the LP standard and the DSL100. Lov...

Biasing DSL 100

I have read many threads on the web about setting the bias on the DSL 100 but there seems to be a varied opinion on the mV per side that should be used. Seemingly Marshall recommend 90mV per side but many users say that this is too hot and 80mV per side should be used. Can anybody set me straight on...

Re: Changed KT66 positions to get better bias

Final piece of the puzzle!!!! Put back in the original stock KT66 tubes last night, biased them up to a perfect 78 and 79mV and hey presto...the background hiss is 10 times quieter in HDR even at extreme gain settings. The amp sounds great as it always did. The extra hiss must have come from the not...

Re: Changed KT66 positions to get better bias

Just to keep anyone that's interested informed...i put back in the original preamp tubes and boy oh boy do they sound great! Much stronger tone and more gain. And like i had said earlier the tone in LDR is much stronger and slightly closer in volume to that of HDR. (I had put in a set of Harma stand...

Re: Changed KT66 positions to get better bias

Thanks for all the help guys! I must try the Gold Lions in the 1+4 and 2+3 positions to see how they sound. But i will go back to all the stock tubes to see how she sounds in stock form again. I suppose its good to have a full spare tube set for the amp anyway and now they are nicely run in already ...

Re: Changed KT66 positions to get better bias

Yeah, i will try that first...was going to put them back anyway cause the ones i got seem to have slightly less gain. Again not a major problem cause i just push the settings up a little to compensate but i do notice that the volume of the LDR dropped dramatically in relation to HDR with the newer t...

Re: Changed KT66 positions to get better bias

Cheers surf...thanks for the info. Actually i may very well go back to all the original tubes including preamp ones as well. The amp was dead quiet and sounded great with the stock tubes. I really only bought all the new tubes to have a spare set and of course wanted the new ones in straight away to...

Changed KT66 positions to get better bias

I changed my power tubes in the 2466 a few months ago because i wanted to put a brand new set in there and keep the stock ones for spares. The stock tubes had about 2 or 3 years playing on them. They sounded great but i did not have the amp from new and i did not know how much was left in them and c...

Quick question about connecting two cabs

I have my standard marshall 4x12 cab that i usually connect..thats at 16 ohms. But i also have a blackstar 2x12 cab that i would like to connect along with the Marshall cab for bigger venues...it's 16 ohms also! Do i connect each cab separately to each of the outputs on the back of the amp?? And do ...

Re: New guitar sounds unbeleivable through VM!

From Tipperary! Mostly play around Munster and Leinster. Here is a few clips from youtube recorded with a cheap videocam so sound is bad! All of these clips have the VM 2466 head into standard marshall 4X12 and Gibson SG. The band is seriously good fun to play with and we don't take it seriously at ...

New guitar sounds unbeleivable through VM!

I went mad the other day and sold off my SG and tele to help fund the most beautiful 1990 Gibson Les Paul Standard with natural top. This guitar came up on an Irish adverts site and i knew i just had to have it! Have been looking for a nice LP for years. The guitar has a nice bit of history to it as...

Re: Back to VM after short detour!

Yeah, the Dr. Z stuff sounds amazing alright from what i've seen on tv and the web. Never saw or heard one in the flesh though. Those small boutique amps are rare enough in Ireland. You will see them from time to time but most people go for the regular big name brands. Most of the really cool stuff ...

Re: Back to VM after short detour!

The L.A. Ampfest 2010 is on youtube, it is split into different videos that show the whole running up to the amp demonstrations and then all the videos of the actual amp demos. It is a good watch from start to finish, great to sit into some night the wife isn't around. The demo video with the VM in ...

Re: Back to VM after short detour!

HI Surf, i know we are always on the look out for better tone and feel, and that search is what drives us! Over the years this is what makes us progress and end up at a stage where we are getting great sounds with our well chosen rigs...of course getting better at playing over the years tends to hel...
