It Followed Me Home, Can I Keep It?

It has been a while since I have been here but scored a holy grail amp yesterday!

I will play with it for a bit, and will then decide whether to switch over to KT66 tubes.

Re: NAD - Early '80s JCM800 2203

A quick 'Google' reveals that the Canadian amp would have extra fuse protection inside the amp and that some models were made without a 16 Ohm tap for the output speaker. Canada appears to be very strict with it's electrical safety regs. Model No. is likely to be a CSA/2203 (Canadian Standards Asso...

Re: NAD - Early '80s JCM800 2203

Congratulations to whatever you got. The Faceplate makes me wonder. A JCM 800 should have Rockerswitches instead of Toggleswitches. Even the 2203 from late 70ies have Rockerswitches. Please post some more detailed pics. Sigi No detailed pics needed. This is a Canadian CSA model and those had metal ...

NAD - Early '80s JCM800 2203

I sold my Vintage Modern 2266C and bought a JCM 800 2203 and a 2x12 cab from a friend of mine. We managed to meet up yesterday so I've got the beast home now. The first letter in the serial number (S00151) points to this being an '84 model, provided I am reading the serial number correctly. But I th...

Re: 100hz hum

Thanks for this thread.

I was having the same issue. My 2266C is in for service right now (under warranty) and, if it isn't resolved, I can send it back and tell them to check this.

Re: New Amp Day

They must have better deals out there.... Was the TSL on sale when you bought it? It was used and a bit beat up. The didn't really like the guy who traded it in so lowballed him expecting him to walk, but he took their offer. Once that happened they didn't crank up the selling price so I got a deal...

Re: New Amp Day

Well you definitely didn't get it from Long & Mcquade :laugher Nicely done. Actually, I got both of them from Long & McQuade. Stumbled upon the $175 TSL at my local shop and bought it. When I sold it a friend who works at my local shop found the 2266 in one of the the Edmonton stores and had it tra...

Re: New Amp Day

Congrats Colchar. I Think I remember you looking for a Marshall some time ago now. Glad you finally found one. I grabbed a TSL122 for an insane price ($175) but it wasn't giving me what I wanted. I sold it for $550 and used that money to pay for most of the 2266, which I ordered an hour or two afte...

Re: New Amp Day

Ah OK, got it. Thanks, I will definitely open up the master when I have the place to myself. My next door neighbor is a drummer so he can't possibly complain!

Wouldn't cranking up the master make it too loud for home use, even with the preamps set lower?

New Amp Day

Here is my new Marshall Vintage Modern 2266C, a 50 watt 2x12 combo. And I actually like the purple colour! It arrived a couple of days ago, but I just got around to taking a quick picture. This thing sounds great and, although I am still learning how to dial it in, I am fairly certain that it will e...

Re: Suggest Me A Marshall?

Just to update this because I am bored on a holiday......

That JCM2000 wasn't doing it for me so I sold it. I got it for $175 and sold it for $550. Later that day I ordered a used Vintage Modern 2266C that I got for $599. It arrived a couple of days ago and sounds glorious!!!!!!!!

Re: NAD (Incoming)

Thanks folks. I can't wait until it arrives. If it gives me vintage type Marshall tones I will be in heaven.

Now I just have to figure out how to effectively use those two preamp controls!

NAD (Incoming)

I had become unhappy with my JCM2000 and decided to get something else. I was considering either a vintage Traynor YGM3 (very close to Marshall specs so easily modded and righteous amps in their own right) or a modern Reissue of the same amp (very well done - they even had the transformers and grill...

Re: Suggest Me A Marshall?

Vintage Modern all the way... if you can get a 425 cab to match ... all the better but won't for $1000... I would get a Vintage Modern 2499 used for around $700-$850 - then get a cheap but decent 2x12 and load in some Eminence private jacks - those sound awesome with the VM. I have had tons of fend...
