Re: Why don't I like these single-coils????

Hardtail yes, direct mount, not so much at all. As pickups are not effected at all by the body, it doesn't matter how you mount them. [/quote]

So you've tried screwing a pickup directly into the body?
And YOU can't hear a difference? :think

Re: Headstock snapped off

I think the trick would be to join it perfectly and clamp it, using a strong glue like super glue gel, and try not to glue the trussrod.

Re: Why don't I like these single-coils????

I appreciate this is an old thread, but i wanna post anyway. Whenever i feel like my strat is too thin sounding, i pick up my tele. Although its quite twangy, the sound isn't as compressed and sounds thicker. Hardtail and direct mount pickups could explain the compressedness you get from a tele. Wh...

Re: 2266 50W - lead guitar volume boost???

I also have an MXR 10-band EQ, but that seems to merely "saturate" my sound rather than actually increasing the volume when I need. Do I need to set the amp volume as loud as I need it, then use a pedal to reduce my volume when I am not playing a solo. Thats how I use my EQ pedal :winking 1. (minus...

Modded Marshall Super Tremelo history lesson

It was a 100w Super Tremelo (1959T). Slash rented it from Studio Instrument Rentals (SIR) in Los Angeles for recording AFD. It was the most requested Marshall head they had in their inventory (SIR rental model #39), and they had to constantly fend off pro players who wanted to buy it. George Lynch w...

Re: Why don't I like these single-coils????

I believe it's something to do with the pick-ups but not because they are single coils. Maybe the way those particular ones react to the amp. Could be a tone preference thing. My Strat sounds spectacular in heavily distorted settings. Really snarling, spitting, and nasty. I have a couple other guit...

Re: Why don't I like these single-coils????

So I'm having a really hard time getting to like my Strat, the custom blue one in my avatar. I spent good time and money on it, but like I said, it's just not jiving. I can get some really nice cleans out of it and it's very comfortable to play, don't get me wrong. But I find any distortion with it...

Re: So how are the Bugera Marshall clones?

This demo sounds nearly like a Hiwatt to me, with that attenuator. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dR130dFFHkE But like most modern amps out there, they might sound good, but chances are they will let you down in the longrun. Everything is PCB mounted these days anyway. But I'll bet Bugera does not s...

Re: Attenuators.... SteveD,Surf and rest of your opinions!

Here's how I use mine. One cable from head to 2x12. Another cable from head to attentuator. Halves the wattage. So 25w from the amp to the speakers and the other 25w gets soaked up by the attenuator. Of course you have to change the impedence to half on amp. Works great and doesnt really affect the...

Re: Dual Amping?

I would use the VM for cleans and a JCM 800 for overdrive A/B Y, but if you don't need cleans; A JCM 800 would nail those Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, Iron Maiden and early Metallica tones too a tee. In stereo, you could set it up like this, a jcm800 for those nice mids and a VM for bottom and high tre...
