Re: Class 5 headphone trick mod - R51

Funny, I asked in November 2010 what would happen if this resistor was clipped. Since then, I sold my first generation Class 5 and bought a C5-01 last November.

I just clipped this resistor and it was exactly what I wanted all along.

Thanks!

Re: The Ridiculously Thorough Guide to the Marshall Class 5

Great thread! Thanks for the tips. I had a Class 5 a few years ago- an original version with the one piece back and I modded the heck out of it- to the point that it didn't sound like a Class 5 anymore. Back in November I picked up a final version combo in excellent shape with no mods for $225 and I...

Re: Whoa, glowing tube

My generic response to this question is to post this pic that I took of the power tubes in my Mesa/Boogie and to say that I'd be more concerned about the tubes that aren't glowing blue.

Re: Class 5 with Greenbacks? Without rattling...

It might matter which version of the C5 MKI that you get.

I have a very early one with the 1-piece back and it has way more bottom end and "thump" than I expected!

The rattles in mine were mostly a microphonic output tube.

I have seen pics of them with a 10" Greenback installed so one should fit.

Re: Class 5 Basement mod

Someone else looked at my mod and pointed out that the amp is seeing about a 9 ohm load with the resistor that I'm using. That shouldn't be a problem. I think I'm going to try a 50 ohm resistor as a happy medium. The load will be higher and I think there will be little more attenuation. Eventually, ...

Re: Newb considering a Class 5 with a couple questions

Almost all of the rattle in my early, 1-piece back Class 5 went away when I replaced the original tube. I also removed the heat shield per the Marshall service PDF that was going around, put o-rings on the tubes and added a few pieces of felt. My amp has been fine for a while now. I picked up this a...

Re: Class 5 Basement mod

found that the bedroom mod (headphone output jack to internal speaker) attenuated too much and sounded thin and over distorted. Looking at the schematic, leaving the original 15 ohm/25 watt resistor in parallel with the speaker and replacing R50 (100 ohm/2 watt resistor) with an 8 ohm resistor shou...
