Re: Learning English, need help

A quick tip - almost everything that North Americans understand to be England (e.g. the comments in the video you posted) really only applies to London, England. The variety of accents, cultural allegiances and landscapes is about equivalent to the U.S. but packed into a couple of hundred miles of l...

Re: Vintage Modern and Robin Trower's amp rocks the Hard Roc

Well, I'd rather listen to Trower but that isn't to diss WT as he seems to be an admirable trooper of the live scene and the blues isn't my thing at best. It's really hard to square that circle of shred and feel. How many have really pulled it off? Hendrix, EVH, not many others. I shred at home for ...

Re: Vintage Modern and Robin Trower's amp rocks the Hard Roc

Nope, never heard of him. Trower has a hardcore following in the US, I'm one of them. Didn't Trout make his name playing in John Mayall's band in the mid-80s? Think so. I hope he becomes better known in his homeland. I'm not his personal evangelist or anything - I'm not a big Blues guy - but that c...

Re: Vintage Modern and Robin Trower's amp rocks the Hard Roc

Dude can play huh? I never heard of him before, nice chops. Have fun at the show. Excuse me??!! Never heard of Walter Trout? Wow, he's pretty well-known in the U.K. He's headlined fair-sized venues here for 20+ years. I'm assuming your experience of him is typical for the U.S. :think - he is Americ...

Re: Mid Boost EQ

Try about 300 Hz. And a couple of other things - play with the frequencies either side of that figure to draw a bell-shape if you're using a graphic eq. It will be the equivalent of changing the Q setting on a parametric eq and will soften and might make the boost more natural. And ... in purely sci...

Re: what to do?

I bought my VM from GuitarGuitar in Newcastle and they are a great shop to try first in your area. Lovely people and help. Not dissing anywhere else - and I've dealt with some horrible types - but they've been great with me. I'm not connected to them in any way (and they won't know me by this forum ...

Re: VM vs. Jubilee

The Jubilee broke Marshall tradition by not employing a purely tube path for overdrive. There is a diode-clipping stage at the higher gain settings. Kind of like having pedal overdrive technology within the amp. This is the main reason that the Jubilee has grown to such a reputation as a unique lead...

Re: VM vs. Jubilee

I own both - in every way they are polar opposites on the Marshall spectrum. The Jubilee has a very powerful tonestack. A couple of notches on the Bass really changes the character. It has a lot of gain - I never need to go past 6. It does one thing really, really well - an 80s high-gain "brown" sou...

I agree, that's not the worst setting in the VM world.

But I also like to use plexi-style amps without jumpering the channels. So did many "name" players.

Re: Help me with my amps problem!

Another thing that's easy to overlook in the excitement of plugging in for a new day of blast-the-neighbours is that it can take up to 20 mins for the tubes really to get cooking to their optimum. Give the amp a couple of minutes on standby - and then 5-20 mins or more fully activated - before you c...

Re: New VM Marshall demo

Yeah, clearly it's produced in-house by Marshall for its own website. But the last time a Chris George VM demo was lifted and put on youtube it accumulated nearly 100 000 views ... other VM demos have 300 000 ... ... this got 400. I'm guessing Chris went to this extra trouble of another demo because...

New VM Marshall demo

If this has been posted on this site before I've missed it.

But as previous VM demo vids have up to hundreds of thousands of hits - and this has fewer than five hundred - I'm guessing the world isn't aware of it.

Re: The loop?

On a similar note ... I think I know how to do this, but ... ... can someone run through how to route the VM output as a preamp into a 1987x working as a power amp section? You know this is one of the least discussed theories about about achieving the elusive "brown" sound ...? I've heard it done (w...

Re: Why two controls (Body and Detail) for Preamp Gain?

The EQ - yeah, I can hear it on the VM but it is pronouncedly less affecting than on any other amp I've encountered. It's there but it doesn't "grab" frequencies the way I would usually expect. Consequently, much as I like it, I've had a struggle with rolling off top end.

BB+ Demo by Steve Stevens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yxd0dR-DDII Through a Suhr amp that is similar to a VM (well, similar sound to mine anyway). Jump to 01:20 if impatient for playing. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...
