Re: VM OR JMP????

There's a lot of fingers pointing towards the vintage modern on the net, with good things to say about it ,so i'll make this my first choice to demo, I you had to say an amp which does the vm sound clostest to ,800,900 jmp, plexi,??. Answer e) None of the above. Although there is a family resemblanc...

Re: No way!!

I uploaded a video of me playing through the settings I think are the closest i've came, so far. Please know that I'm not a expert guitar player, I know a lot, but I've only been playing for about 3-4years now :scared2 That doesn't mean I don't have ambition :shredder Again, It's just me feeling un...

Re: What am I doing wrong??

Uh-oh - a sensible question but ... well, read this recent thread if you've not visited already. Many of the suggestions in it would be relevant to you. http://www.marshallvintagemodern.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8766 It soon gets into tin hats all round but there was plenty of good sense spoken by the...

Re: No way!!

That's cool - I sometimes feel on the internet that if I take the slightest step I'm setting off landmines for someone ... I'm getting shell-shock from thinking I'm going for a nice quiet stroll and suddenly .. BANG (again)! All cool. Yeah, I've used the TC Multi-band compression inside the System 6...

Re: No way!!

TonyC - Re-e-e-l-a-x buddy. I'm not lecturing you. I am making free speech comments that are principally directed at Yellow Stone and the wider audience of this thread. The point I was trying to make to them ...? It's easy for those with little top-end studio experience to believe that once entering...

Re: No way!!

It sounds like the mid-boost is IN to me - this is a ridiculously thick tone only for demo purposes and not how Aldrich normally sounds. On the other clip of him at the Marshall theatre there is a different level of thick-ness - I wouldn't say thin, but more like mid-boost OUT. More like him on a no...

Re: No way!!

Let me be the latest to say - oh, yeah that really sounds like a VM. It's got the characteristic Marshall sound with added thickness in the low mids. If you're struggling can I suggest the following checklist: Les Paul? HDR - Detail high (maybe even maxed out)/ Body 2-ish notches lower? Mid boost in...

Re: Pedal to Warm up & Smooth out the HDR Channel

Much as I love a lot of the sounds in the VM I have spent a lot of time juggling for a balance between LDR and HDR from a Les Paul. I feel like I'm really getting there but I reverse engineered your approach. I prioritised settings that created warmth in HDR and then employed the settings on my peda...

Re: Hi,Steve, how to make vm combo works like a JMP 50 ?

You're right, of course, to say that your problems are caused by the conspicuous lack of a 30-band EQ on the VM. It's blindingly obvious once you point that out. That no other amp in musical history has ever included such a feature is neither here nor there - it perhaps makes such inclusion even mor...

Re: Renewing pedal board 4 VM....

Interesting adjective - "creamy". That's exactly the tone I try to dial - maybe excessively for some tastes. Hence my taste in pedals. Many famous players favour a Tube Screamer (SRV most well-known of all - didn't he sometimes chain two together in front of his amps?) but they are often associated ...

Re: Hi,Steve, how to make vm combo works like a JMP 50 ?

Woo-a-h, where's that coming from? Fella, you're well within your rights to say on a free speech forum that you don't like something - including the VM - but to say, "No offence, but I do believe body&detail with incomplete frequence responce is a bad design. How many users have complained about tha...

Re: Renewing pedal board 4 VM....

I've got an original TS808 Tube Screamer (not the reissue) and have never liked it. Maybe that's just me but it thins out the low end drastically when activated and the distortion it adds never sounded as good as just bringing up the pre-amp gain on the VM. It sounds "synthetic" (a bit), not a natur...

Re: Hi,Steve, how to make vm combo works like a JMP 50 ?

ftw2011 - I still think your desired tone is in there but also try to see that there are all sorts of good sounds to explore apart from just an Yngwie. Any amp can be set wrongly to achieve unpleasant results and the price for the variety achievable with the VM is that it is possible to dial yoursel...

Re: Hi,Steve, how to make vm combo works like a JMP 50 ?

If, as you indicate, you can get satisfaction with careful gain-staging below Master Volume 3 then it will be possible above there as well. But as the MV goes up it brings in more power-amp stage distortion and you might need to back off the other signal path stages. The VM Body & Detail work pretty...
