Re: VM and SL-X.

That´s what i thoght for a while that i got a more tradirional sound with the mid boost in. But then i discovered that i lost a lot of the crunch and dynamics playing like that. So i think the more traditional Marshall tone is with mid boost off. It works fine on playing at home at very low volume....

Re: VM and SL-X.

Oh, great - I'm glad this is back. This is a fantastic demo. Did you have mid-boost in etc? Apologies if you are repeating postings info - I'm sure others will be interested. The VM comes out well, doesn't it? It is less compressed and has more "air" (higher mids) than any of others as set and I lo...

Re: VM really BRUTAL bright

We might need to ask you a few more questions as a process of elimination. But, I can tell you that your description of "great for rhythms, way too bright for leads" is exactly how I feel about the VM HDR ... WITHOUT the Mid-Boost. Others can get results like that but I always put it to ON for a Les...

Re: EQ Pedal Better In Front Or In Effects Loop?

The history of EQ is divided into two uses - Corrective EQ and Creative EQ. Which of the two you're trying to achieve might affect your choice of placement in the signal path. EQs were invented to make small adjustments to allow compensation for either other instruments or the technical limitations ...

Re: VM and SL-X.

Oh, great - I'm glad this is back. This is a fantastic demo. When this was previously posted I think you missed a question I put to you - could you list the VM settings used? At the time I think I was struggling to finalise my tonestack and other settings. Since then, I think I've got the VM as good...

Re: Mixing G12C and Vintage 30's in my 425a cab. Can I do it

I own a Marshall JVM 212 (C?) 2x12 with a Marshall Vintage 30 and a Marshall Heritage (greenback) - both Celestions, of course. I bought it because I tried a JVM combo and that the standard configuration for that series (well, for the 4-channels model) and it caught my attention. I went with a VM he...

Re: I am really liking my new VM

In answer to your question - yeah, I believe the emphasis is on the "syn" of "idiosyncratic" but it's a soft, not heavy, weight on it. When do I get my Teaching English as a Second Language qualification? I echo Gridlock's sentiments. The English speaking world (well, I can only really speak for the...

Re: Fun Poll - How Satisfied Are You With HDR?

I've gone with perfect. Even though there can be something a little - and I do mean only a little - harsh with my Les Paul. As this doesn't happen with a Tele flat out I think it is a more a guitar than an amp issue. I cured it by putting an old Tube Screamer in the path and keeping the guitar volum...

Re: New Vintage Modern owner

Holy Heck! Master on 10??? WTF?? If I'm in an empty house or huge club. In my demo studio, which is 20 x 12, I have to be creative with amplifier setups. Especially high wattage 1/2 stacks. I'm laughing as I'm typing - yeah, Master Volume 10 sounds excessive but it was already a long post from me a...

Lordy, lordy - I thought we were getting back on-topic and I was enjoying it. Beck-ola - I can like you and your knowledge and not like your use of language. I can't really see any difference between typing "jerkoff" and directing a posting at an individual that has an smilie icon animating "jerking...

Dos - could you elaborate? Erm ... can't quite read your tone of voice. I'm a fan of facts, myself. And the laws of physics - I've gotta have those as well. Beck-ola - don't apologise for the background colour, we've got all the time in the world here. This subject has got everyone interested. I nea...

Re: Does your VM sound better after an hour

Can I widen the conversation slightly based on these heat transfer issues? So why do tubes and transformers fail? Is the damage done from the change of state from cold to hot (and vice-versa)? If so, could longevity be increased by lessening such heat transfers (i.e. maintaining a steady state by ha...

Re: From heaven to hell

Firstly, there is balancing act to all of these factors and distances. The physics of sound transfer cannot alter and I'm basing my opinions on them and personal experience that works for me . But like playing or any other great aspiration I'm guessing that everyone personalises the process. So I'm ...

Re: From heaven to hell

That's a hell of a tone from Joe, there (as usual, but such a nicely recorded clip). I think the issues raised by his use of plexi shields has to also acknowledge that he - and the audience - won't be intended to hear the on-stage amp. In fact possibly the less it can be heard by Joe and the crowd t...
