Re: Farwell to Steve Dawson of Marshall

You (Steve) helped me out with an issue i had with my second hand Vintage modern a few years ago, not only through E mail and advice but sent me spare parts required so i could install and repair the amp.
BIG thankyou :Cheers

Re: Marshall JVM 205H!!!

Im the same about pedals, i only have four, TC polytune and Xotic bb mb in front and a TC Flashback delay and MXR 10 Eq in the loop. I find i have to turn the bass down/nearly off when i turn the gain up to 3 or 4 on the dial because it gets thick on OD 2 Orange using a Strat and L P so i am surpris...

Re: Marshall JVM 205H!!!

That is the big problem with the JVM. Too much gain. You should be able to turn up the gain because that makes the tone fatter. With the gain at 3 or 4 (on the dial) on OD 2 it is thick/fat & creamy no need to go any higher on the gain and the real beauty is that when you turn the vol knob on the g...

Re: Amp 16 useless?????

Amp 16 useless????? A bit of a strong statement i think, 16 is the one i use the most and i use OD orange most on my JVM for gigging, yes there is to much gain but i only have the gain around 1 or 2 on the dial, loads of tone available and enough gain for crunch and lead. May not be perfect but usel...

Re: THE JVM DISTORTION

I have a Blackstar HT Dual but dont use it with my JVM, No Neeeeeeeed. Shed full of tone and gain with the JVM as is. All the JVM needs is a Delay in the loop for solo,s and away you go.

Re: Loop noise on JVM

The 2 masters are a great feature but they don't boost the DI out to you PA mixer, so i use the FX loop instead which does boost out though the DI. i also use a Morley Wah/Vol/Drive pedal in front to give me a bit more kick, keep the drive gain to 0 thickens up the tone nicely for solo.

Re: JVM410H sounding thin?

For me the JVM gain on OD 1 or 2 works best with the gain on 2 to 3 on the dial, Mid at 8, bas 5, tre 5, pre 4, res 2 that should give you a great tone and not thin, if it is you have res and bass to play with. the trick with this amp is to keep the gain down on the OD channels. i also prefer it thr...

Re: Loop noise on JVM

I run a Boss DM2 delay in the loop for lead work and get great results, gives a good boost for solos with the fx mix around 70% , sorry i cant help you on this but i am interested to hear how you resolve it.

Re: New Valves ?

The bias pots and test points are inside the amp, but so are high voltage circuits so rather dangerous. not as easy as the TSL.

Re: New 501 owner - Need some help :)

I wasn't that blown away with mine so i stuck a V30 in and it improved a lot but still not brill. i tried it through my JVM combo speaker V30 and it is much better which leads me to think the MDF construction of the JMD1 combo is half the problem, the JVM is plywood.

Re: JMD Combo Speaker

Is the Celestion G12-70MD designed for the JMD or is it a stock G12-70 with MD added? and what other celestion is it closest to regards voicing? Just curious as i prefer the V 30 in my combo i think it has made a big improvement to the sound.

Re: Street price on a JMD combo 1x12

Defo stick a V 30 in it. Stock speaker in the 501 doesn't do the amp any favours.

Re: JMD1 Combo speaker

Did your JVM only have the one speaker? Just curious what it came with. I had the 2x12 version and it had one V30 and one other one that wasn't readily identifiable but may have been a G12H-30 or something like that. But yeah, I bet a lot of guys would go for the sound of the V30 in the JMD seeing ...
