Re: My favorite Marshall is the 2061x

Can any of you 2061x owners tell me if the 2061 head box is the same size as the Class 5 head box? The dimensions listed on the Marshall website puts them within millimeters of each other in size, and visually they seem nearly identical. Thanks.

Re: Class 5 at bedroom volume secret

You can access the low power mode on a Class 5 head by setting the switch to "headphones" and then plugging in your speaker cable 3/4 of the way into the headphone jack.

Re: Any love for the Marshall 3203 Artist head?

Have owned or played pretty much every Marshall made, and my 3203 is still my primary go-to amp (see avatar over there <------) . Happy to answer any questions. That said, the Vintage Modern is a terrific amp and I don't think you could go wrong with that either. Good luck with your decision. Xh558 ...

Re: DSL401 buzzy distortion channel

Just to validate my impressions I fired up my stock 2005 DSL401 today and had a chance to crank it. As tmingle says once you get the gain, channel and master up around 7 or 8 on the OD channel dial the amp is a beast with thumping bass, great tone and plenty of volume. But pretty much any level belo...

Re: DSL401 buzzy distortion channel

Hi there - short answer is "yes". Some folks have been able to pull usable tones out of a 401, but that's usually been after wholesale changes of tubes and speaker and adding a boost or an extension cabinet or EQ to the amp. The 401 clean channel is fine, round and toneful, but the OD channels are v...

Re: At last got me a Class 5

Do some web searches and you will find how to enable the low power feature on the combo. Basically you remove the existing speaker connection wires to the speaker, attach an external 1/4 inch plug and cable to the speaker, and then plug that 3/4 in to the headphone jack. When you want full power mov...

Re: Tell me about the Marshall 3203! Wow!

Hi there - what do you want to know? The 3203 and the combo 4203 are classic "sleeper" amps, folks tend to dismiss them based on the size and specs... Until they hear one. Made during the JCM800 era from about 1984 until 1989 or so. Mine is from 1987. If the foot switch was black plastic with two re...

Re: Class 5 Ext Cab Tone

My ears heard the opposite, I thought the C5 combos sounded very boxy and constricted, and the head plus C110 extension cab a bit more open and full-toned. Truth be told, I wasn't happy with either sound and settled in on using my C5 head with a larger closed back cab (in my case, a mid-80's JCM 800...

Re: Has the Class 5 really been discontinued??

If you expect to use the 10" speaker in the combo then get the combo.I bought the head because I most like the sound through 12" speakers. And if you buy later version of the combo, you'll have the 1 watt option too. The 1 watt option is not included in the head. :Cheers The low power option is ind...

Re: artist 3203 new tube advice

I have owned several 3203 and 4203 amps. The power tubes must be biased after a tube change just like any other EL34 equipped Marshall. This information comes directly from Marshall technical support. The difference with the 3203/4203 vs other Marshall's is that these amps don't have a bias pot for ...

Re: some intresting news

New DSL line will be made offshore (Vietnam). 15 watt head and 1 x 12" combo, 40 watt 1 x 12" combo, 100 watt head. Yes, will be interesting to see if it is the same or similar circuit as the UK made JCM 2000 DSLs or if an entirely new build.

Class 5 Gain Stages and C110 cabinet questions

1) If this is posted somewhere and I missed it, apologies. Could someone describe the gain stages in the Class 5? What each tube/gain stage does in the circuit? When the C5 is cranked, are we hearing pre-amp distortion, power tube distortion, or both? 2) The matching C110 cabinet is rated at 15 watt...

If you have the opportunity to read the "Father of Loud" biography, do so. Your admiration for Jim Marshall will only increase once you understand the details of his compelling and inspirational life story. Even more amazing when you realize the driving force behind the most iconic rock guitar and b...
