Re: How many Vintage Moderns were made total + just got another one!

IMHO we have around 15-20 more years until the Vintage Modern becomes the go-to amp just like the Silver Jubilees did a few years back. It's inevitable. Even though I don't use mine that much (too big and loud for most gigs), I'm hanging on to it until the prices escalate. And it made a mighty mean ...

Re: Marshall Gateway App

Just downloaded and played with the app a bit, very interesting. Disappointed that the effects order does not seem like it can be changed. But that's a small complaint. Another disappointment is no 50w EL34 power amp emulation; that precludes an accurate 50W Marshall Super Lead simulation. There is ...

Re: NAMM UPDATES

Question Will the Code accept Class Compliant midi and audio interfaces? YES Hi Surf, thanks for checking this. It implies some interesting possibilities. If the prices are as low as they appear to be, I might buy one just to play with, and I have some class compliant interfaces that will get tried...

Re: tried a kemper

I've used a Kemper as my main rig now for going on 9 months, and it has been the best money I've spent on gear. The tone is astounding, and it will do things with dynamics that tube amps can't touch. My main two profiles are amps I own; the first is my home made Dumble clone (Robben Ford #102), and ...

Re: Steve Dawson opens Root Two Amplification

You have to admire Steve for the amazing work he put into the Vintage Modern. I've been building and modding amps for decades, trying to get a specific Marshall tone that was totally elusive, and somehow Steve got into my head and created the perfect Marshall with that tone (100W VM in HDR, master o...

Re: NAMM UPDATES

MKB here, been gone for awhile, buried in work and gigging with a Kemper. But the Code has me excited. Can't wait to hear clips, see a back panel pic, and a manual. For this price, I'd buy one to use with my JMDs just to get 1959 tones. My JMDs are still my go-to amps for loud rock gigs. From what I...

Re: New jmd???

This is indeed great news, especially for Softube. They have already proven they can do the Marshall magic with the JMD, and Softube will get much farther in the modeling game under the Marshall name than with their own. I suspect also that Marshall does not have the internal expertise to do great m...

Re: Diodes in speaker cable, Yes, No?

To the OP, a diode in a speaker cable would probably do several things (I'm guessing as I have never heard of this being done before). First of all, since the signal to a speaker is AC, the diode would block half of the waveform. This is the same as disconnecting the speaker for half of the waveform...

Re: Modifying MIDI of JMD:1?

You might want to consider looking at used midi patch bays/processors, such as the JL Cooper MSB. IIRC those had filter functions that could do what you wanted. You might be able to find one of those for cheap. Another possibility is to use an iPad and midi interface, and run the app MidiBridge. Tha...

Re: Steve Stevens using Vintage Moderns in concert

Note that he's playing his guitar synth (he's an early Roland adopter) in this solo - no VMs used. The acoustic solo video was the only one I could find in a quick search, but that was in a Billy Idol concert, so he surely played electric at some time on that stage. The video was just to show the V...

Re: Farwell to Steve Dawson of Marshall

It is sad to hear Steve is leaving Marshall, he was responsible for my two favorite Marshalls after over 30 years of Marshall obsession; the Vintage Modern and the JMD. He truly had "the Marshall touch" and could create those elusive tones in hardware. IMHO he created yet a new Marshall tone in the ...

Steve Stevens using Vintage Moderns in concert

Hi all, don't know if this is old news or not, but in this video of a Steve Stevens acoustic guitar solo in 2012, he has a few VM's behind him in the backline.

Re: Slash AFD Les Paul Performance Pack

Also, Slash needs the money. How else does he maintain that fleet of AFD 100's and Les Paul's? He must go through $1,000 worth of strings every week. He's Slash, and gets EVERYTHING for free. He must have the most endorsements of anyone out there. That being said, if this kit encourages some young ...

Re: Questions about the JMD-1 50watt combo

Just this past weekend I had my first gig in months using the JMD501 (most other gigs required other gear due to extreme low volumes and limited space). I plugged up the JMD501's emulated out into FOH, and a loud signal from it was sent to my wedge monitor before I could turn the amp off standby. Ju...

Re: Going 'Midi" on JMD:1 - Connector confusion... need HELP

From looking at pics on ebay, the MC1 has a 9VDC or AC power jack. If you use a compatible power supply with the MC1, and a standard 5 pin midi cable between the MC1 and the JMD, I am sure it will work perfectly. The reason for the 2 extra pins on the MC1 is for remote powering. If you use a 7 pin c...
