NAD: Fryette Power Station 2

Technically an amp, albeit only a power amp with an attenuator but I figured it could be of interest here. Background: I am by now only a bedroom player so everything I will write has to be put in this context. My main amps are 2203s (1981 JMP, 2203X, KK and also a 4010 combo). I just love the sound...

Re: SL5 in 2018

Interesting topic as I am dusting up mine! :-) I designed a really nice setup a few years ago that I documented here based on a pedalboard featuring a voodoo lab pedal switcher/commander and a bad cat unleash so I could as a G-Major in the loop. It was a very versatile and compact setup but in the e...

Re: distortion pedals for this amp

MXR Wylde overdrive. But any clean boost would do. I set the gain on the amp at 5-6. It gives me a great crunch that cleans up well with the guitar volume. The clean boost gives me a lot more gain and compression. Typical boosted marshall tone. That plus the clean channel and I'm loaded with plenty ...

SL5 with Bac Cat Unleashed

Hi, After toying with my SL5 for a few weeks, I deciced that even if the delay in front of the amp sounded better than expected, it still wasn't as good as in the loop. I ended up biting the bullet for a Bad Cat Unleash. More expensive than having a loop fitted to the amp, but also gives me the oppo...

First impresssions SL5 review

Hi, First of all I would like to express my gratitude for this forum and the people behind it as it have been an invaluable source of information for anything Marshall related for the past years. I have been tiptoieng my way towards the SL5 for a while now. The absence of an FX loop was however a so...

Re: SL5 with OD pedals?

Thanks a lot for your replies. Most amps take pedals well. Never had an issue boosting an OD channel. But clean channels can be fussy. The Carvin Legacy for example has a fantastic OD channel but the clean channel, while great on its own, always had difficulties with pedals. Hard to put a word on it...

SL5 with OD pedals?

Hello, Just read a review here stating that the clean channel didn't take pedals too well. Can anyone confirm this? I was planning on getting one and using a TC electronic Nova system in front. I would be using the OD channel of the amp for rhythm, but for my lead sound, I wanted to really on the no...

Re: DIY FX loop with a load box and a micro amplifier?

No reply from them either after a few days.

Anyway, please post if you have news. The unleash with the SL5 would make for a very versatile combo.

Re: DIY FX loop with a load box and a micro amplifier?

Well in my case it was more about adding an FX loop to an amp that doesn't have one. The Bad Cat would allow me to do this but with the added advantage of turning a 5 watt combos into a combo I could do small gigs with. The SL5 has a rather large cab for a practice amp and I think it would cope well...

Re: DIY FX loop with a load box and a micro amplifier?

I have heard about it and it looks like a great product. I would actually get one on the spot but it doesn't seem that Bad Cat is producing a 240V version. I have emailed them about it a few days ago but they haven't replied so far.

Bias setting on SL5?

Hello,

I have read confusing information regarding the SL5 regarding the bias. Some articles refer to it as having a cathode bias, meaning one does not need to adjust it manually when changing the power tube. Has this been confirmed? I read the SL5 manual and found nothing about this.

Thanks!

DIY FX loop with a load box and a micro amplifier?

Hello, I was looking at Marshall's SL5 combo. It looks and sounds great... apart from the lack of FX loop. Short of having the amp modded, I was wondering wheter such a setup would work: Amp output into load box Load box into FX unit FX unit ino micro amplifier (ie Electro Harmonix Caliber 22 or 44)...
