Re: G12 C

I scored a pair pulled from a 425 cab a few years ago. They are parked for now, though I may sell them down the road.
Early 1980's G12-65's are doing it for me now.

As I recall, the G12C's had a rolled off top end, but a much richer harmonic midrange.

I got to spend about a half hour picking Bruce Egnaters brain on tube stuff at NAMM last year....he is a true tube amp guru. He lives and breathes this stuff and can explain things in a way that makes sense.

Real nice guy and generous with his time and knowledge.

Re: Just tested out a new Friedman BE100, thoughts

That's an interesting review Surf. I never got the whole "boutique" thing that is used to justify the crazy prices that are asked for these amps; it's a current trend and some guitar players get in the boat of the "boutique" bullshit. I wonder how many great records were recorded with these boutiqu...

Re: Just tested out a new Friedman BE100, thoughts

There is a good recording studio demo of a sweet JCM800 (or JMP master volume) Marshall being recorded and compared with a BE100. The Friedman is definitely modern sounding when demo'd back to back with the Marshall.
To me the Marshall beats the BE100....in that video.

I'll try to find it again.

Re: Well this sucks

Like Paul posted, been hearing about that big quake from the San Andaes since the early 70's. But don't worry, CA added a huge gas tax called the "global warming tax" to each gallon of gas here, so the problem is fixed. It's amazing how it works, just throw more money at gov it there is no longer a ...

Re: Marshall Amplification, please... open letter!

From what I see, the hot sellers today are the EVH 50w 5150 III amps....mostly because of the tone and price-point, and Friedman's modded plexi circuits, the BE100. If I am not mistaken, George Metropolis is doing Friedman's "mass production" work. I am sure Marshall could outdo these guys if they p...

As you might have read I am one of those who like what they are doing live more than 35 years later, but I sure wish I'd seen and heard them live in 1978.... Sound is bad compared to what you hear in modern concert recordings, but that energy is really something - and Dave still has his voice.... a...

Re: EL34 and 12AX7 tubes shootout in a JCM800 - must see

I know surf will not like me for saying JJ but I think the JJ KT77 sounded great' bigger and strong , on the look out for some KT77,maybe gold lion, maybe groove tube ,maybe JJ ???? They run higher bias I believe? The JJ KT77 seems to be the new kid on the block and my amp tech friends love them. I...
