Re: Another solution for the fizzy fizz

I've tried a few of the different suggestions for taming the fizz, including: *an MXR GT-OD pedal in the FX loop - didn't like the result at all - seemed very muffled to me *EQ pedal in the loop - more to my taste, but still didn't completely get rid of the fizz Then I changed the speaker in my 1x12...

Re: Marshall MA settings

Hi Mike, Thanks for the info - my MXR GT-OD should cover that use then. It's not identical to a Tube Screamer, but it's certainly in that sort of territory, and it's even green! So far I've only used it in conjunction with the clean channel or with the boost off on the overdrive, but I'll have a pla...

Re: Marshall MA settings

@jagermike66: I remember reading a Steve D post where he mentioned having Resonance on full and Presence on around 3/10 for low volume use, and then swapping the settings for high volume use (i.e. Presence maxed out and Resonance on around 3/10), so I'm expecting a couple of tweaks once the volume g...

Re: Marshall MA settings

I thought I'd try and get this thread back up and running by posting my settings. I still haven't had a chance to get the amp to a rehearsal room, so these are based on low volume playing only, but here goes anyway: (these are all from 0-10) Presence: 2 Resonance: 10 Reverb: 4 OVERDRIVE Volume: vari...

Re: True all valve distortion

First off - thank you everyone - what a wealth of information... ...and from this, I think I'll do the following: not much just yet. I'm actually pretty happy with the sound I'm already getting, so much so that I've actually now taken my EQ out of the effects loop. I might like to fine tune things, ...

Re: True all valve distortion

@jagermike66 Excuse my ignorance - this might be a totally obvious issue - but when you replaced the EL34s with KT77s did you need to get the amp re-biased? After 25 years of playing this is my first valve amp - I always believed those people who said I wouldn't get a good sound out of a valve amp a...

Re: True all valve distortion

@txslowhand I'm right there with you as far as repurposing old gear - the 1x12 cab was an eBay purchase from a few years back, which I had originally hoped to use with a Digitech modeller and a cheap power amp. I ended up with feedback problems I just couldn't solve, so it got tucked away for a rain...

Re: True all valve distortion

@jagermike66: I can't wait to crank it! The drummer I play with from time to time is damn loud, so I'm looking forward to the expression on his face when he hears the MA. To be honest, I think he'll love it. He's very positive about guitars. @SteveD: wow - it's pretty great to be welcomed by the guy...

Re: True all valve distortion

I've just picked up a stock clearance (but new) pre-revoicing MA50H for £298. What a bargain. I'm tight on space at home, so it's being played through a 1912 1x12 cab. Initially I was using the stock speaker, and with this the top end was a little fizzy and the reverb a touch indistinct. I've since ...
