Re: Silver Jubilee vs. Slash Jubilee

My memory is hazy but I remember a rig diagram on an article for UYI recording and I'm sure it showed an old 70's JMP blended with his modded JCM800. Don't recall the Jubilee being used at that time, in the studio. Ultimately though, the point I was making is that the Jubilee, by itself, is far from...

Re: Cover Band Guitarists?

If you are going to have the gall to play your own solo in a copied cover tune, you'd better bring something great to the table. My thoughts exactly. The strange thing is, after playing covers for decades, I've found the majority of your audience only cares if you get about 75% of the solo correct....

Re: Cover Band Guitarists?

I was blown away when I first heard Nuno in the 90's. I remember trying to play his sort of Flight of the bumble bee intro, but play every note. Then a chat with Phill Hilbourne at one of his gigs, he showed me how to do it with a delay, so you get a free note every 3rd, so much easier, but like yo...

Re: NAM (Month), Finally a Keeper 1981 JMP Master MKII Combo

Cheapest way to get yourself a 2203 / 2204 amp, PLUS you get two speakers in the deal too! I love my '79 2104 combo with G12-65 speakers, it's got that old school Marshall THUMP and GROWL. Its open-back sound actually makes it sound 'fuller' than my 1987 heads through the Marshall 1936 cab (which pr...

Re: Cover Band Guitarists?

To both the above posts, absolutely agree. And the thing about learning other player's styles is that when you do come to improvise, you don't neccessarily recyle those licks ad verbatim and be a copyist, you just have more licks in your bag that you can mix and match. It's no different to learning ...

Cover Band Guitarists?

Something that niggles me a bit when I read various guitar forums is the backlash against guitarists who try to cover music note-for-note. The usual jibe is "Dude, find your own sound, don't be a clone, be the best YOU you can be" etc etc Now, this strikes a chord (excuse the pun) with me, because I...

Re: Silver Jubilee vs. Slash Jubilee

Greetings, Above it is stated the Jubilee is a "hand wired" amp...are they not constructed with a PCB? Maybe I am confusing "hand wired" with "point to point". Thanks, RB that's quite a common misconception, neither the Jubilee or 2555SL are hand wired or point to point wired., it's a plain old PCB...

Re: Silver Jubilee vs. Slash Jubilee

I just assumed that Slash's used a Jubileefor everything and I figured that's why Marshall gave him his own signature based on the Jubilee. I had no idea up until a few years ago that Slash lost most of his gear in the Gn'R/St. Louis 1991 riot, which promted him to go and ask Marshall for some new ...

Re: Two G12C speakers 'Safe' for a 50W head?

I would think it's safe unless you plan on play'n fully cranked and using feedback and such, under those condition you could blow just about any speaker, more to it than just numbers. I use my 2 with a TSL60. Nah, I won't ever crank it to 10, not without an Attenuator. My Peavey JSX head is rated a...

Two G12C speakers 'Safe' for a 50W head?

Want to put two of my G12C speakers in a 2x12 and use it with my 50w JMP '1987' Model. I'm told that these old NMV Marshalls put out a fair bit more than their stated 50w or 100w. If so, does this mean it's not 'safe' to ever fully crank the head using these speakers?

Re: Celestion Creamback now available

Just ordered a pair from Hot Rox UK. Been using G12-65's in my 2x12 Marshall Cab and have been pleased with the results, but just want a Greenback option to play with. I do have a quad of the G12C Greenbacks from the Vintage Modern series but of course two of those is only 50w. And I'm still not sur...

Re: Silver Jubilee vs. Slash Jubilee

I've owned a 2555 and a 2555sl at the same time. sonically they were identical. Looking at the gut shots of both, there were some minor diferences to the PCB trace layout and of course the Caps were modern lego ones rather than the wafer thin brown ones in the older amp. Bear in mind that there were...

Re: DSL 1998 MODEL

Well I don't know about yours being more desirable but I do know that if I was looking for a DSL I'd be wanting one as young as possible, being that the early DSL PCB boards are notoriously sketchy.

Apparently it's a ridiculously simple mod to do to a standard 1959 head.
