Re: I modded my Class 5

Your clips sound really good, nice crunch nothing over the top. Thanks for posting. Thanks. All I wanted to do was adjust the "tone" of the amp without trying add anything, and I guess it was successful. There's not a ton of distortion on tap but that's the idea with this amp anyway. Regarding that...

Re: I modded my Class 5

This is my mods on a schematic. https://i.imgur.com/sNfRRzb.png I have been playing around with 470pf vs 940pf on input (in series with input). Both seem ok. 470pf is more Marshally (cuts below 720hz IIRC)....940pf in theory matches up with the amp better (similar HPF in later gain stage, 330hz IIRC...

Re: Steve Dawson opens Root Two Amplification

Thanks for the kind words Surf. I have recently completed a redesign of the Marshall Class 5 which will be available as a retrofit to existing production units if the player prefers the sound. I will be organizing some clips soon. I have also devised a complete set of mods to implement on a Plexi, ...

I modded my Class 5

After some frustration trying to record with my class 5, I decided to finally mod it. I added a master volume, a 470pf cap around R14, and a bright input (940pf cap in series with input jack...idea taken from Supro amps to avoid messing with the PCB). I'm pretty happy with the result. It's not quite...

Re: Fixing a Marshall MA reverb tank

Greetings everybody. Just found the forum while searching for solutions/information for an MA100H. I just bought the MA100H with matching M412 cabinet this weekend for $350. I've briefly owned a MA head a couple years ago and thought I'd check it out again since it was a decent price. Well.... the ...

Re: DSL 15 H Marshall Demo

Chris has never used EMGs. His Lag guitars had dimarzeos and this LP has bareknuckle's in it. Keep in mind this 15 watt combo has a 8" speaker, the 100 watt demo uses a 1960B cab, big difference. I stand corrected on the pickups. Though I double checked and it seems the combos do have a 12" speaker...

Re: DSL 15 H Marshall Demo

Not sure what to make of the amp. Sounds alright.

But nice to see Chris George got a different guitar, hopefully rid of those darn emgs pickups.

Re: A quick way to compare the tone of different amps

Seymour Duncan used to do something similar for their pickups - they would take the same guitar and amp, and play the same clean piece and overdrive piece, exactly the same, and it really allowed the subtleties to come out. In theory you can do the same with amps. In reality, sometimes good producti...

Re: Joined the club :D...better late than never

Thanks guys...and yeah...using an eq as a treble or mid boost seems to work pretty well to clean up the amp's overdrive. I have found that with a bright open back speaker I don't necessarily need a treble boost. that's interesting JCM900 - but kinda makes sense if you're running it to the point when...

Joined the club :D...better late than never

So yesterday, the UPS guy dropped off a new C5 head for me. Double boxed with extra care from sweetwater. She's a beauty..love the rubber knobs. Can also smell the rubber o-rings burning in the back...but hope that smell goes away. But yeah, really like the engineering that went on there, to elimina...

Re: swapping valve styles????

I don't believe this is possible without modification to the amp due to problems of biasing (probably would be biased way too hot within the normal range of bias adjustment on an amp made for el-34s) and there might even be an issue with pins / sockets (of which I am no expert, but I believe its a m...

Re: Disassembly and Retubing

I wouldn't sweat it. The best differential I can manage is .5 mV on the 50watter, and even then I'd imagine they separate even further in time by a few mV.

I think it's fine considering these are idle readings, which basically go out the window once a signal is applied.

Re: Blackstar HT 100 vs Jet City Amps JCA 100H?

I think they are different animals. The real question is can the Jet city take EL-34s. That might improve it a bit. Demos sound pretty good. But it's made in China, and I don't really know how well they build em. I personally don't know much of / care about Soldano anyway. I like Marshalls, not real...

Hi Crunchi Sorry mate i should have made that clear, yes the resistors have all been removed. As i said you could always try involving Steve for some feedback and info. If you do let us know and i will follow it. Okay. Will do soon / eventually. Just put my MA chassis back in the shell, and my back ...

Re: Multi-Effects unit for gigs?

When I had a band, all we ever used was multi-fx pedals and clean amps, usually solid state, which was before line6 started making amps and stuff. I find, even today, some models are convincing, some aren't, it just takes time to find what works. I think it's fine, esp if you have a solid state amp ...
