Iv'e got a Infrared temp gun that i check my Tandoori oven with i'll give it a go next play and let you know., No scorching to the tubes or any marks on the casing, i think i'm being over cautious but just wondered if the jvm was prone to running hot.

Not NOS mine are quite new ones . But it is quieter defo. Not as harsh as well . might try some kt66 soon just for kicks .

Thanks fellas, The amp sounds warmer and more compressed than the EL34, according to the blurb a 5881 is around 3watts lower per tube than EL34 so not huge volume diff. My JTM 45 was really bassy so i'd look towards the G12 H 70th as they seem quite bright to my ears, could do good for the tone and balance it a bit.
