PA horn driver problem

Hi guys, any thoughts on this one?.... I have a pair of old Peavey Hisys speakers that work perfectly Except for one thing. The driver assy on one horn now sounds really dull and pathetic against the other. I have swapped the diaphrams over from one driver to the other and both diaphrams sound great...

Re: Quartet of power Tubes and selection pair sockets posit

Hi Jaropda, I used the TAD valves in my MA50h some time ago and liked them very much. Very sharp tight sound. Unfortunately one failed and Ireplaced both with JJ e34l.. NOT to be confused with el34... they tend to have slightly beefier sound, still with lots of life in them. I think they`re a great s...

Re: blowing fuses

Yep can bias it myself. Cant think why a valve would make it blow. I think his repairman is clutching at straws . Any other thoughts chaps would be much appreciated. Thanks, Kev.

blowing fuses

Hi guys , looking for some guidence if poss. The other guitarist in the band has an MA 100h which has been reliable until now. It has now started to blow the fuse in the bayonet capsule after roughly 10 minutes use. He has a new set of power valves on order after a `techy` suggested it could be thos...

Re: Preamp Tubes Help

Hi Tyler Dont know if you`ve sorted it yet but that 3rd tube is the phase inverter. Dont know why it is shrouded differently to the others but same design as my 50h. For some reason they are just that bit tighter than the others , you just need to give it an extra wiggle , carefully!! It will come. ...

Re: ma50h have a problem with boost

Hi PS1984 By the term `wide open` Phantum means turned up full ( or at least very loud ). I too have a 50h running a stright-front 1960 with 2x12/75t and 2xv30 in an `x` pattern. to me the amp also sounds nasally but i find if adjusted carefully it can be used ok. Not too much gain. If used purely o...

Re: 1960b cab wiring

Hi P A U L thanks for the info. I do actually have a 2x12 cab that's now empty so I'll prob get them anyway .what I could do is wire them for 16 ohms + the 412 will be 16 ohms .i already have a speaker junction box wired in parallel so I can run them together at 8 ohms and put the 212 on top. Sorted...

1960b cab wiring

Trouble is, they are 8 ohms each. Is there ANY way this combination can be wired to give either 8 OR 16 ohms total?? I dont need...

Re: el34`s

Thanks guys!! No noise problems yet but the amp does generally sound `thin` with a poor mid tone and a seemingly lack of bottom end. I expect cash may need to change hands. v1 is Tung-sol rest are stock. Cheers, kev.

el34`s

Hi guys Can i ask in what way weak or failing el34`s will do in terms of power output and tonal quality? Also, when biasing an amp i presume the readings/adjustments should be done with the amp ticking over (quiet) rather than being played? Any thoughts would be most welcome. Thanks. Kev.

Re: Cabinet lining

Hi Thomaso, yourr comments are worth noting and will try. I recently rebiased my amp slightly cooler than recommended. whilst still giving enough gain it has removed the mid-range grain/spikeyness that i think was overpowering the rest of the amps sound. Sounds warmer now with more body.Like it now.

Cabinet lining

Hi I have two 1936 cabs, one vintage and one standard. I have swapped one speaker from each cab to the other so that when I use them stacked the speakers are in an `x` config`. My question is should I line the cabs internally and if so on which surfaces? How might it change /improve the sound? I`m wo...

KT77 in MA

Hi guys Can anyone tell me if they have used KT77s in the MA head (mine`s the 50 w) and specifically how it changed/ enhanced the sound/tone. I have experimented a little with different EL34s and 12ax7s and currently have a Tung Sol 12ax7 in 1st position but am looking for more body and warmth in th...
