Re: Do my DSL sound normal?

If that is the sound comming from the actual amp there must be something wrong with it. I had a DSL100H for a very short while and it sounded nothing like this. In fact it sounded very good with the stock valves and all. If only they had used a normal sized wooden box for it! Yeah, that is a proper...

Re: Do my DSL sound normal?

You may or may not have an issue with your amp. A good tube swap never hurts. All I have is a DSL1 to compare this to but it seems from your settings in your examples you are relying way too much on preamp and not enough power amp. Then on top of that you are boosting this. I have a lot more succes...

Re: Do my DSL sound normal?

No fix, just frustration. I occasionally use it as a poweramp with my jmp-1 rack preamp . The poweramp is fine. The preamp is useless

Re: Do my DSL sound normal?

I've replaced the preamp tubes. No change. I suspect the preamp. Same problem with choked attack when I connect the preamp to a Marshall 9200 poweramp.

Re: Do my DSL sound normal?

I discovered the clipping noise at high volume today so that makes the use of warranty much easier. But I still wonder about the way the signal gets choked. Is this normal to a degree when diming the gain on ultra gain? Is this what they call blocking distortion? Again, this is my first DSL. Have us...

Re: Do my DSL sound normal?

It recorded with a SM57 into high quality PC soundcard. No clipping during recording. This is the sound from the cab

All recordings from Ultra Gain, not classic crunch.

The amp is still under warranty

Do my DSL sound normal?

I need some help with my DSL100H. I have 3 main problems with it. First it can't handle gain higher than 6 on lead 1. The signal get choked after string attack. Then it does not handle boosts in a good way. If boosting lead 1 at gain 4 with an EP booster, the same choked signal appears. The third pr...

Re: JTM1 powertube question

I tested another JTM1 head yesterday, and that was another story. Less flubbyness, more crisp and much easier to play. It was hooked up to a 1960bx cab and I played my trusty Les Paul. The biggest difference is the way the amps cleans up. My JTM1 goes dark and fuzzy, but the one I tested goes into a...

Re: JTM1 powertube question

bad sound drove me to replace all tubes, but no change. This amp is just to flubby, muddy and trebly for me. Using a Les Paul with burstbucker pros trough a 1960ax Cabinet and can't find what I'm looking for. Been listening to the Marshall demo and Andertons demo, and they get this great crunch, but...

JTM1 powertube question

The powertube (12au7) in my JTM1 is running very hot. Guess it's more than twice as hot compared to the preamtubes. Have to wait a few minutes after shutdown before touching it without burning my fingers

Is this normal?

Re: Unexpected feature

then yours are working as designed. On the one I tested the green volume controlled the overall volume on the red channel. The pots are boardmounted I assume, so how could this happen

Unexpected feature

Had the opportunity to test a DSL100H in a store today. The classic gain channel in crunch mode sounded fantastic :jam . Did use a xotic bb preamp in front. Then I switched to the ultra gain channel and notice a very low volume with both gain and volume on 10. After messing with the controls I found...

Re: Question for Steve - 2266C with issues?

This sounds like my previous VM Head 2266, which I returned. I had about one mounth of pure heaven, and then the growl disappered. The sound turned muffled, unfocused and weak. Didn't clean up in a good way when turning down the guitar volume. Tried replacing power/preamp tubes and adjusting bias, b...

Re: What am I doing wrong??

Thanks Beck-Ola and I agree with you. I forgot to mention that I use Xotic BB Preamp MB, M-Audio Tube Zone, TS9 and have experimented with a Keely DS-1 with a TS in front. All works nice with the VM. Normally I use BB Preamp MB with HDR for a hard rock rythm/solo sound, and switch over to LDR for cl...

Re: What am I doing wrong??

Yes, I better get a second opinion. The guys only checked Bias and Output levels, and thought it sounded good, Case closed.
