If you liked your TSL122 then you should check out a used TSL601 or TSL602. They have a master volume as well as channel volume and gain. The master works great and I can get great bed room level tones.

I don't think removing the resistor is right. I think you use one or the other, not both at the same time. They are both do'n the same thing, measuring mV DC. There are other probes that measure mA that you could use.

I fine it to be fuller sounding with the back off and the greenback. I've also switched the tube to a 6CA7 which gives a meater sound. Last night I dropped in a VHT tube converter and put in a EL844 WOW! Very responsive, really sounds like a hot rodded JCM800

A PS to make you feel safer do'n this, the 2266 combo is the same amp and come wired from the factory as 8 & 4 ohms with the 16ohm tap not used.

I swapped the speaker for a G12C greenback and left the back off. I've tried several preamp and power amp tubes types, don't recall what I have in her now.

This will give a class AB power section with one tube just like the blackstar.
