I have three AFD-100 amps. I demoed all three and picked The worst sounding of the three to learn the amp and boxed the other two who had the magic right out of the box. My #1 took a few bias adjustments to balance out the treble response off the power amp and still has all stock tubes other than th...
Just sorted itself out. It was nowhere near the other two I own in terms of balls and smoothness. I played the amp exclusively for around 25-30 Hours and all of the caps must have settled in. Now she is consistently a top contender !!!!!! Still has factory pre's and new SED 6550's since it was shipp...
Please, try some tube swaps. I have been repairing amps for 15 years and the biggest issue that screws warranty techs is that the customer could not try a few new tubes. Factory repairs usually require a repair authorization from the manufacturer before you can even touch the amp, so it may sit for ...
Stupid question, but have you tried any new preamp or power amp tubes to isolate if either has an issue ? It is a tube amp, so the first place I would try is the tubes, please don't tell me you spent $ 2000 on an amp and don't have enough for spare tubes.
Been without power for the last six days !!! Most likely Monday I will be back on the case. I was playing AFD # 2 with the EL34's biased around 40mA and a Telefunken in the V1. I really have to say it was a different amp. The Telefunken had so much gain, I was really getting great, thick and chunky ...
I have three now. When I get the bug, I get it bad. 1 and 3 are the first and third amps I bought. # 2 seems to have the same complaint as some AFD owners as it is very toppy and lacks the same gain and bottom end as the other two. I am contemplating keeping #2 and tracking down the difference betw...
In fairness to Marshall, the original JCM 800 design was toppy as to not sound muddy at stage volumes. The AFD's # 34 is no different even considering the two Levi mods are to add gain, not a bigger bass signature. The AFD mode takes all of that typical high end from the #34 mode and uses much highe...

Unpacked a new, only opened by the store to make sure everything was in the sealed box AFD 100. Came with all the candy including a speaker cable and AFD shirt all unopened and the amp is mint. Now, down to the ultimate question. This amp is like my AFD #1, pure ballsy and thick MARSHALL CRUNCH. Ton...
Pulled the tubes out of AFD 1 and placed them all in AFD 2. Same bias, guitar, cable cabinet and still not the same. AFD 1 and 3 are very close, maybe a preamp tube away from identical. Today I blueprinted AFD 2 and documented the value and reading of every resistor and capacitor. Tomorrow I am blue...
At this time I have three AFD's. The first one I received is not thin, is quite aggressive and voice very well on both AFD and #34 modes. The second I got Wednesday and it's very treble heavy and does not have the same gain in the AFD and a fairly substantial drop in gain in 34 mode. Retuned, rebias...
Are u going for the 3rd? :o Well, that's strange the KT88's on that one. Surely some1 changed them cause the original tubes are 6550's. Never tried any other tubes since this is my first tube amp. I think when some tube blows up I'll try to put some KT66's to see if something changes but the 6550's...
