Awesome tone! I gotta say the single coils sound really Van Halen like to me! Maybe there is something brown to the lower output pickups and KT66 tubes!
Luckily, I noticed this the day after I bought new tubes. I wonder if using the wrong impedance affected the bias readings when I biased the new tubes?
I pulled my 4x12 out to do some cleaning behind the amp, and happened to glance at the speaker cable jack. Seems the last time I connected the amp to the cab, I stuck the speaker cable into the 4ohm side, instead of the 16ohm. I've been using it like that (at low volume) for a month or so! Was any p...
I have the Power Brake too. I use it down 3 steps, then start the master volume from zero to a good basement / bedroom volume for home use. Works great, and I think the Power Brake doesn't color the sound like the THD and Webber units with their "tone" controls.
Hey - My 2007 VM does this buzz when turned on thing. My DSL50 also did the same thing, I though it was odd, but never addressed it. Strange thing is, when I checked my bias last night on the VM, it was a little high, so I dropped it down to 38mv, and the buzzing got a little quieter. I guess the ho...
I hear ya. But if you check the Fargen mini plexi amp demo videos, it comes pretty close to sounding like a good Marshall Plexi at conversation volumes. I also love the sound of my VM 2266 at low volume, getting mostly preamp gain. I'm a low volume player, in my basement with kids sleeping mostly! S...
Wow, I wonder if that's the technology that Fargen uses in his "power scaling" feature? Seems too good to be true to be able to crank the power tubes, then attenuate with the headphone circuit!
Any chance of you (Marshall) making a Class 5 head??
Interesting! So, if you crank the volume to halfway, or over, and run the headphone jack to external speakers, you wouldn't harm the amp or tubes in any way (above the normal wear and tear)? Is the built in load that lets you use headphones like a mini Power Brake, with the headphone volume control ...
I like the reverb because it's very subtle, more like a digital delay effect then a spring Fender type reverb. I like it very low, to add a little wet echo to an otherwise dry sound. If you don't like the reverb, crank it to zero, or step on the footswitch, and it's out of the signal chain - which i...
I don't like the two black switches or the purple light either... it's just 'not Marshall' (in my opinion). But rather than changing the indicator light to red (which I did think of), and given that you can't fit JMP-style toggle switches, how about changing the power switch to a JCM-style illumina...
