Re: Marshall Studio 15 mod questions

Update: The C13 mod (changing it to .0047uF) is the real deal, and a fantastic improvement in this amp - it really brings out a nice, mid-rich snarl, and increased the gain as well. It really sounds great now. It may not be a JCM800 firebreather, but its ballsy and very toneful. I'm loving it! If I ...

Re: Marshall Studio 15 mod questions

Great! Thank you. Sounds like removing it might have been a good thing, as this amps' upper mids are present and appreciated. I should probably stick sticking another one in there and see if I like the resulting tone.

Thanks!

Re: Marshall Studio 15 mod questions

Ok, i'll take a shot. First, the only thing i can see by changing the 2n2 ( .0022uf) to a .005uf may be a slight change in the frequency passage as that is a pretty large cap to begin with. Same thing with the bypass cap, 22uf is large enough to dump all audio frequencies to ground, a 100uf will do...

Marshall Studio 15 mod questions

Any Studio 15 people in the house? So as I mentioned in my previous thread, I am the new owner of a Studio 15. Woo hoo! I am quickly making it my own, and have tamed its shrillness, increased its bass response, and in general made it sound more like the classic Marshall tone with the following mods:...

Marshall Studio 15 - best forum for Q's?

So I am soon to be the new owner of a Marshall Studio 15, and I am pretty psyched about it. Huzzah! I'm sure I'll have some questions about getting the most/best tone from this amp and was wondering which Musicians Roadhouse sub-forum is the right one in which to ask questions about it? I know Marsh...

Re: Celestion G10N-40 vs G10S-50?

I have the G10N-40 that came with my JMP1C. Sorry I don't have the 50 to comment on but like you I have a similar setup in that I sometimes use a Badcat Unleash with my low wattage amps. It has been a while since I did the Unleash - G10N - 40 combination to have good specifics of it but I do rememb...

Celestion G10N-40 vs G10S-50?

Hi, I recently tried a Celestion G10N-40 for the first time (first with my JMP1H, and later with the JMP1H + a Fryette Power Station) and was impressed with it -- it was a very balanced speaker with a definite British feel when pushed. I have heard the G10S-50 described in similar ways. Could anyone...

Re: JMP1 - recommend some alternate power tubes for less gain/better crunch?

So I finally received the JMP1H yesterday, and I am very impressed with it. It sounds great -- better than I expected, actually. Even with the stock tubes, it's pretty crunchy and has a very nice tone. I need to pair it with some different speakers and see what sticks, but I'm happy to finally have ...

Got it - thanks a lot for your reply.

I guess I'm that other type of user, the "mess with it 'til you break it" kind of guy. ;)

Re: JMP1 - recommend some alternate power tubes for less gain/better crunch?

Thanks for the quick reply - I have been lurking here on and off since I cycled through my SL5 about 18 months ago, but now that I have the JMP1 I may become more active. (I spend a lot of time on TGP, but now that I have more Marshall's I will probably spend more time here as well...) Followup ques...

JMP1 - recommend some alternate power tubes for less gain/better crunch?

I finally was able to purchase a JMP1H (it joins the JTM1C I already have), and I'm looking forward to receiving it in a few days. I've been reading up on the amp and the various power tube combinations I can run. I prefer less gain than many JMP users, apparently, and I was thinking about rolling s...

Re: JTM1 and JMP1 back on sale?

So, funny (?) story about that guitarguitar link if you are in the US or Canada. Yes, they actually have these in stock. Yes, they are even on sale(!), but NO (and I really mean NO!!!!!, as in "No f@#%ing way!") they will NOT ship any Marshall amp directly to a North American address. Believe me, I ...

My SL5, a work in progress

Like MarshallMark in this thread , I bougt this amp because it's a 5 watt, 1x12, two channel, single ended EL34 Marshall w/built in reverb, and less because it has Slash's name associated with it. Nothing against Slash, just not my goto rock subgenre, etc. Since getting it a few weeks ago, I've been...
