Re: Fix DSL401 or buy DSL40C

Yeah, I liked the tone till the original tubes got weak. I couldn't find EI's and hated the JJ's. I got a great deal 2 years ago ($450 shipped) on my 40C at my local Guitar Center with their very liberal return policy. One thing the 401 is great for is as a power amp for modelers. I plug my POD XT i...

Re: Fix DSL401 or buy DSL40C

I have both a DSL401 & a DSL40C. The 40C can be dialed in to about any style of music. I do not consider it a true channel switcher though, as the EQ between OD & crunch are pretty different. They do sound more similar as the volume increases. The 40C is also an excellent bedroom amp. I did clip C19...

Re: DSL401 buzzy distortion channel

I got a chance to demo the HT20 combo and the HT5 combo side by side Saturday. The weather was pretty crappy, so I did not take my guitar to the store. I did not crank them, but instead played at a volume low enough to talk over. These amps are very different sounding. Both amps have plenty of gain,...

Re: DSL401 buzzy distortion channel

Thanx for the input guys. I have the Mullard RI EL84's installed now. I tried a V30, which IMO made it worse. I picked up a closed back Egnater cab that improved things a little. I think I am going to get something with a less power(the 401 sounds fine when cranked past 7-8, but I need to lower the ...

Re: Studio 15

I had 1 for a while in the 90's. The place I bought it from sold it to me for $265 brand new. The salesman said the amp was there for 3-4 years and had been demoed 3 times. When the internet buzz on them started, I sold it on Ebay for $700. Cool little amp with strange interaction between the contro...

DSL401 buzzy distortion channel

I have had a DSL401 since 1999. It was a pretty awesome amp for years. After about 10 years, the output tubes finally died and needed to be replaced. I had to do the usual repairs(re-solder the board, replace bridge rectiifer) and installed a fan to help cool it. I also installed external test point...
