Re: Convert LDR to 2203 and HDR to Hi-Gain 2203

Hi there, Not an amp expert by any stretch, but the slight issue I had when I bought my 2266, is that it was too bright. Easily fixed with the amps treble and mid controls, and the guitar tone knob. I thought they were known as bright amps. Maybe check out the amps condition first; tubes etc. Then, ...

One dead tube

I have a 2007 2266C which I love. Last night the volume was fading in and out, sometimes down to barely audible levels. It has done this once in a while recently. So, decided to check the valves, and found one of the KT66's was cold with no glow. Cold with no glow! Problem is, I only play at home, a...

Re: Another LED indicator question

I took my 2266c in for biasing about a year ago. My tech saw the light was out and replaced it with a blue one, keeping the same outside square bit.
Still working fine.
He said it was a piece of cake to do.
Horses for courses.

Re: 2266C Compression - Mush - Neck Pickup

Sounds like a plan . You can always back off a smidge on the guitar if its too gainy. I reckon 7-8 sounds great on HDR.

Re: 2266C Compression - Mush - Neck Pickup

Have you tried HDR with the guitar on about 6 or 7, then turning up for solo's?
The 2266c was a revelation for me as I was a guitar on 10 guy.
You can use the guitar's volume to take you from nearly clean to full and overdriven without enormous changes in volume.

Re: 2266C Compression - Mush - Neck Pickup

I have a 2266c also.
Found out pretty early on that it does not take boost or gain pedals well.
LDR does however.
Luckily; HDR is magnificent on its own. The best boost is the guitar's volume control. This is what the amp was designed for.
Cuts down on pedals too!

Re: power tube swap

I replaced the tubes and also the bear claws with spring retainers. No problems at all now. Not sure which swap fixed the problem, but the old tubes were rattling pretty bad and that has all gone too. So its possible the glass had come away from the base of the tube. Just overall tube disintegration...

tube rattle

For all you 2266c owners on this forum: I have had mine for a few years now and have tried everything to stop the tube rattle of the KT66s. Finally put the speakers in a 2x12 cab which, of course, did the trick. Put the speakers back in the combo recently and yesterday put in a new matched pair of V...

Re: tube retainers

Thanks burnsy; did just as you said, worked a treat! Had to take the first screw all the way out, then loosen the other one a few turns, so the bear claw will swing around enough to get the first arm of the new retainer screwed in. No need to get right into the box! Because mine is the combo; I had ...

tube retainers

Hey all,
would I have to drain the caps to change out the bear traps to springies?.
I'm thinking not as I am not going inside the amp; but just wanted to be sure.
Cheers.

Re: power tube swap

Thanks.
They're Gold Lions and I have always had rattle with them. Maybe the rattling has caused tube damage in one.
I will try the contact cleaner thing too.
I have a new pair of Valve Arts 66's to try out if the problem continues. :yea
