Re: 2266C Input Transformer runs hot under higher load

Thanks Anitoli as I have same observations.

Time to warm the house with another input xfmr heating event on a cold Saturday afternoon... best part of Canadian winters!

2266C Input Transformer runs hot under higher load

Sounds awesome but is this normal for a VM 50W with higher load?

MV / Body / Detail all 5's with HotShot ABY into another good amp.

Especially warm input xfmr with two 4x12 Celestion G12C G12M cabs after an hour yet output xfmr consistently stone cold.

Re: Modded the indicator light!

I finally fixed both my VM's purple power LED in simple form. Perform surgery on existing power LED assembly and install P/N NTE30121 NTE Electronics 5mm Super Bright Purple LED with forward current rated 30mA max and replaced power LED current limiting resistor R72 with 100 ohm 1/2W. Brightness is ...

Re: New Amp Day

Congrats! Looks mint and good price too. I have same purple 2266C acquired a few years ago for $650. Apparently purple was only offered in 2007 as far as I can tell. You likely did already but suggest to check the bias since it's new to you, just to be sure bias has not drifted over time and to get ...

Re: Your First Marshall....

In 1983 bought a slightly used mint condition matched pair of 1982 Anniversary Edition white tolex 1960A & 1960B 4x12's, then soon after bought a slightly used showroom mint condition 1983 JCM800 2204. Recently recapped & retubed the 800 and plays like brand new. The 800 stack with a good LPC peels ...

Re: 2266 combo bias settings

I'm not sure if the Bias King or any other commercial bias measurement device samples the voltage across either side of its own 1 ohm resistor or from cathode end of said resistor to ground. Easiest way to find out would be try both methods. Confirmed Bias King measures 1 ohm across cathode tube so...

Re: 2266C with two bias trim pots

Did VM production start in 2006? What years was purple tolex with gold piping available?

It would be fantastic if we could please update the FAQ with some of this excellent background technical information for the VM platform!

Re: Bittersweet moment with my '800...

It was a glorious sound... The articulation was amazing. A selection of 4x12's with a good Les Paul direct into my '83 JCM800 is a long time favorite that never fails to deliver waves of spinal shiver. A Vintage Modern 2466 100W and a few Hiwatt Customs do it too. In 1991 bought a clean used 2204 a...

Re: 2266C with two bias trim pots

I made the revision in early 2008. I believe the covering colour was changed to standard black too. Very interesting and thank you for this information. This explains why my purple 2007 2266C 50W Combo & purple 2007 2466 100W head both have single bias trim pots, and along with my purple 425A cabin...

Re: 2266C with two bias trim pots

Do you happen to know what model year introduced the dual bias trim pots?

Perhaps we could add this info to the VM FAQ, as I for one would really appreciate knowing this when shopping for used VM's :)

Re: Modded the indicator light!

Thank you sir! Now I also better understand why your LED DC conversion is working well for you, as your link indicates your chosen LED is rated between 5VDC to 7VDC so the original 68 ohm current limit resistor on the AC input side works for your chosen components. The factory schematic indicates or...

Re: 2266 combo bias settings

My 2266 is closer to 420 volts if i set the bias at 48mv . I never got 460 volts on the pin 4 of the kt 66 ?? Maybe pin number is a typo? Plate is pin 3 and one of the grids is pin 4. Where did you measure 420V? The TAD biasmaster more than likely has a one ohm resistor in it. The 2266 already has ...

Re: Modded the indicator light!

Yes I noted your color point as well. My local electronics supply did not have purple LED so I figured while I was there for $1.79 each that a blue was better than no LED at all, but I too agree a purple LED would be best for VM. I'll find some purple ones eventually but the posts on this site was e...
