Did you order the pcb custom made? Or do they sell these as standard items?
I ordered them custom made beefing up the specs...

- .125 inch thick FR4
- 2oz copper
- Plated through holes
- Black solder mask with white silk screen

Re: Resistors Carbon Film or Metal Film? SteveD?

Beautiful workmanship. You obviously take great pride in your work :Thumbs Thanks! Now I'm draping the board during soldering like they do in surgery, pointing all the resistors in the same direction and polishing the solder joints with alcohol and a cotton swap...yeah it's getting way out of hand!...

Re: Resistors Carbon Film or Metal Film? SteveD?

SteveD in related news I continue to be so impressed by the Astoria Custom and its design. Yesterday I was describing it to a guy, it remains the bar by which other amps are measured.

Re: Resistors Carbon Film or Metal Film? SteveD?

I ended up going with Takman Rey and TDK metal films. Synergy Royal Mustards and WIMA film/foil caps. F&T's for the filer caps. Likely my final build with PEC stainless pots they have become ridiculously expensive.

Re: 1982 JCM800 2204 Vertical Input Score

Lot of people believe the best JCM800s were built in 81-83, this one looks to have never been gigged. I have played many of these amps over the years, and from my experience there are simple ones that sound great and ones that don't. It´s a kind of taste with the JCM 800. Like Surf says there are g...

Re: 1982 JCM800 2204 Vertical Input Score

I'm guessing this was built for the Canadian market? I had a 4104 (combo version of this amp) and the inside is very different. Mine didn't have that separate board with all the fuses. Canadian amps also had metal power/standby toggles, if I recall. Correct it's a Canadian version that's different ...

This week I scored this minty 2204 for $1,300. Came with what looks like the original Mullard UK Blackburn EL34's. http://www.coolidgeamps.com/pics/2204jcm01.jpg http://www.coolidgeamps.com/pics/2204jcm02.jpg http://www.coolidgeamps.com/pics/2204jcm03.jpg http://www.coolidgeamps.com/pics/2204jcm04.j...

Re: Resistors Carbon Film or Metal Film? SteveD?

Thanks Steve. I was trying to source resistors for a 1970 SL. Got sucked into the carbon vs metal film tone thing momentarily this weekend. I'm back to metal film.

I have become irritated with the filament wiring this morning...making a run to the hardware store.
