Re: New Guitar Day - Meet Ruby!!!

Very nice man. I am jonesing for a p90 guitar and a 56 is one of my top on the list. I hear you, I had been longing for something with P90's for a very long time. I was hoping Gibson would do a non-custom shop P90 Les Paul but this opportunity came up and I'm so glad it worked out. The VM and P90's...

Re: New Guitar Day - Meet Ruby!!!

absolutely fantastic guitar!! feel like binning my plain old gold 56' resissue!! lol :Thumbs also it took me a while to dial in THE TONE with my 5 historic, try the master on full with the mid boost in and the t,m,b dimed, and the presence half up. this would usually be really muddy with humbuckers...

New Guitar Day - Meet Ruby!!!

Hi All, Today is an amazing day for me, my first Gibson Historic Les Paul and what a beauty she is!!! She's a 2009 build 56 reissue with a twist, rather than the traditional Goldtop finish, a Candy Apple Red adorns the body and if that wasn't enough, transparent red dot markers have been applied rat...

Re: Class 5 section?

I voted yes since, how many amp forums are frequented by the designer of that amp? Not too many to my knowledge. Let's not divide Steve's appreciated and helpful presence between two forums. After all, we're all gonna get this amp so why add yet another bookmark? Discussion over :numchucks , Bassho...

Re: New Marshall Class 5 Amp

I had it set up with the volume on three quarters with a Marshall Blues Breaker pedal in front, just set on the boost option with the pedal volume on half. It's something I tend to do with more vintage style Marshall's. Hey Chris, thanks for posting, is that the current model BB2 pedal you use or t...

Thanks, I didn't even consider it as I was just looking at the "Lego block" caps

Re: The Great Capacitor Changeover Experiment for my 2266!!!

Thanks Guys Now this thread is getting interesting. It will be a few weeks before I get to the job as i have some other non-music stuff to get out of the way first. I'm going to order Sozo's and Orange Drops to experiment with and rather than screw around with soldering over and over, I'm getting a ...

Re: The Great Capacitor Changeover Experiment for my 2266!!!

How's the Great Capacitor Changeover Experiment going? Slowly Tony, I still can't find a definitive list of cap values for the VM, I've tried other sources but no luck. While I'm confident with my soldering skills I just can't risk perfectly soldering an incorrect capacitor that damages the amp :ri...

The Great Capacitor Changeover Experiment for my 2266!!!

OK, I'm electronically illiterate but learning fast. I'm fine with a soldering iron and so long as I know what to put and where to put it I'm OK as a number of pickup and internal rewiring jobs on a few of my guitars have shown. The key is knowing what to do of course. :crazy So, I want to order som...

Re: My new Gibson Explorer with Vibrola

Thanks Guys Not sure of the weight Surf, I need to get some scales but I'd estimate around 10 pound. My Les Paul is 9 and the Explorer is noticeably heavier. The Reverse V has been a surprise to those that have played it, while they don't like the style, they love the feel and tone. It's the nicest ...

My new Gibson Explorer with Vibrola

Here are some shots of my new baby!!! It's a present from my wife for finishing my degree I've been studying part time for the last 6 years. It's the Week 43 Guitar of the Week series from 2007. It goes nicely with my Reverse V. The sound is very, very mellow and sounds like a very quiet acoustic un...

Re: Replacing Lego Block Signal Caps Vintage Modern

I was speaking to an electronics hobbyist friend (non-musician) of mine explaining what I want to do with the capacitors and he suggested putting in some sort of special socket so I can plug in different caps to experiment with. He said to spend the extra and get quality sockets but it would be wort...

Re: Replacing Lego Block Signal Caps Vintage Modern

Hi Frank

This sounds very interesting, any chance of pictures of the components? My VM (2266 50 watt) is out of warranty now so I'm up for some experimentation!!!! :smash
