Re: Helix or Tube

The FM3 has only recently entered the market. It's basically a less powerful (and less expensive) version of the AX-FX III, but still very powerful. The processors use the same modelling, but you can't have quite as many 'blocks' in your virtual rig. Suits me fine. I've never been one for convoluted...

Re: Helix or Tube

I finally got the Fractal Audio FM3 last week and I've been playing around with it since. I have to say I'm highly impressed with the choice of parameters available (all of which I'm familiar with in the real world) :cowbell I've managed to program some awesome patches and will begin recording with ...

What do you mean as single entity?
I simply meant, make sure the two paths of V1 cooperate with each other. They are both half of a single channel and allow two different areas of frequency range to be dialled in independently.

Re: Treble pot weird filtering !

The best approach is to treat both halves of V1 as a single entity, rather than a Treble and Normal channel as is traditional. Both halves must cooperate with each other in terms of crossover frequency. I see you messed about with the Mid Boost network too which was part of the tonal tailoring. I'm ...

Re: Treble pot weird filtering !

The 1nF cap at C2 was the value chosen to give the optimum crossover frequency between Body and Detail. Why do you say it's too small?

I would have to scope the signal path with your values to see what's going on. A frequency sweep would be useful too.

Re: Treble pot weird filtering !

Without having the amp in front of me it's hard to say, but it sounds like the tone stack input level could be too high making the tone curves deviate from the intended response. As you know those controls are highly interactive anyway. Could also be something else but there is no way for me to know...

Re: 2266c toasted OT

Assuming it is the output transformer, then you need to contact your local Marshall dealer and ask them to order another one for you.

Part number......TXOP-00025

If you need to order the aluminium lamination it sits on

Part number......TL60-30-00

Re: How can you make the FET3 replacement more stable?

Thank you for the kind words.

R22 and R23 are the easiest access points to solder to for the gate and source of fet3.

Re: How can you make the FET3 replacement more stable?

A couple of 18V zener diodes in series, one in opposite polarity to the other, between Gate and Source should give input overvoltage protection.

Obviously observing static precautions procedure when working with fets.

Re: I think I've settled on a speaker

The Creamback H is my second favorite speaker. It was so much better then the Alnico cream which inwas very disappointed in. The cream was just plain flat and dull and this was with my Marshall, Fender and Vox amps. The Creamback H sounded great with all of them. BTW, my favorite speaker is the Aln...

Re: New VM user with fx-loop noise issue

Maybe something like this would sort your issues...

Hum Destroyer

Personally, I would try an alternative noise gate and use the two cable method.

Re: New VM user with fx-loop noise issue

I will mention another issue related to the cables. Each cable has it’s length and for each new meter you loose a little of your analog signal strength. I am using 4 cables myself but I have reduced the length to minimum. My guitar cable is 3 meter long but all others are short patch cables that ev...

Re: New VM user with fx-loop noise issue

I tried using a patch cable in the loop and there was no noise. This makes me think that the origin of the noise is not in the amp but in the pedals I use, the cabling or something else, would I be correct with this assumption? [SD] Yes your assumption is correct. Try eliminating each pedal and cab...

Re: New VM user with fx-loop noise issue

Hi Peterbang, Welcome to the forum. That noise issue is not a characteristic of the Vintage Modern and sounds like you have a faulty component. Possibly a fet. Impossible to say specifically without looking at it, but a tech would be able to locate the issue with a scope and repair it. As for the bo...
