Re: JMD Footswitch: Where can I buy one, or can I use a Haze

At one time I tried plugging a Haze footswitch into a JMD. There was some functionality, but the LED's and footswitches did not match up. So in general it doesn't work well enough for most uses. The JMD footswitch is very useful if you only need 1 or 2 patches, and need to switch the various JMD eff...

Re: Loosening Up The JMD (No Mods Required)

:Scotland Thanx MM will try it. The JMD FAITHFULLY mimics what amps it has as Models. Indeed it does, about the only thing I don't like about the JMD is most of the plexi like low/mid gain tones emulate a EL84 output stage, and EL84's are prone to have lots of crossover distortion. The EL84 models ...

Re: tone and sounds

What specifically don't you like about the tone you are getting? Too muddy sounding, or too shrill, or not enough sustain? It is possible that a setting or two can be optimized to improve your results. As an example, I was having issues getting good tone with my LP Trad Plus (Classic '57 pickups) in...

Re: If I changed the Value of the Screen Resistors....

Yep. MKB, Nothing ever is. But You can see what I'm thinking about. IF, (big word), KT's would work WITHOUT drastically changing the tones of the models, Wouldn't the NATURAL #4 with no color from the preamp take on the Characteristics of a JTM45 or get Vintage Modernish tonewise? I can grasp WHY M...

Re: If I changed the Value of the Screen Resistors....

I knew you couldn't go without modding it! I KNEW IT!! Seriously though Twin, if you swap out the screen resistors it should come up to bias just fine. And I know I sound like a broken record, but make sure you get a set of KT-66's that physically fit in the amp. The bigger bottles (JJ, Sovetech et...

Re: Gibson colors getting odd

I don't like it. IMHO except for SG and LP Customs (which should be white with gold hardware, or black in the case of the LP), every Gibson in existence should have at least 50% of the finish in red. Especially the mahogany. I looked the other day and every one of my players, including all the Gibso...

Re: The Stratocaster Cap Switching Mod

Very interesting mod, thanks for posting. I just added a no load pot in a Strat with high power single coil pickups, and it is very surprising the difference in tone switching the cap out of the circuit, even with the tone set full up. It really does effect the upper highs (i.e. glassiness) of a pic...

Re: NAD Picked up a JMD:1 from Craigslist

Another thing I want to try is running the JMD emulated output into my powered full range wedges (I use these with the Axe Fx). Not sure what that will sound like, but it should be interesting. I tried this trick with my JMD501 combo, and was literally shocked at how good it sounded. IMHO it has a ...

Re: Gibson Les Paul Recording Model Re-Birth

Hmmm; all that mess on the front just to do the same thing that a set of EMG's would do (i.e. low impedance). IIRC the Recording is not the exact Les Paul size, it is significantly wider. And if you wanted to convert the low impedance/low signal strength of the original pickups to a high impedance/h...

Re: Leland Sklar's bass

It seemed like every video of James Taylor in the 70's had Sklar on bass. IIRC he played a lot with Jackson Browne too.

That bass looks like it has the Novax fret system installed.

Re: Which guitar from Santa this year???

In all my years of playing, I have always had a bit of buyer remorse when buying the more expensive one, but never regretted it after the first week or so. It is worth spending a bit more to get a Trad or better, they are in all ways classic LP's and a lifetime purchase. However, if you like the tra...

Re: Gibson ad from 1959

Awhile back I did a brief study on the amps and guitars of yesteryear with their prices adjusted for inflation. I can't recall any of the results except for the Marshalls. The list price of a reissue Marshall 1959/1987 head, adjusted for inflation, is now a tiny bit more (5% maybe?) than the list pr...

Re: Gibson SG Special Faded Opinions

I owned awhile back an early Faded SG, the one with the ridiculous moon inlays. This was a really good guitar, and at the time it was the only Gibson I could afford. I played the heck out of that guitar but eventually sold it when I got a ES-333. Some tips on the Faded SG's; the early ones with moon...

Re: Would you be interested in a JMD2

Actually I am torn whether I would want to see a JMD2; I now have 2 JMD1's and am happy with them, but would be sorely tempted to get a JMD2 if it came out. Here are a few more suggestions: * Ground lift and output level control (or just a lower output level) for the XLR direct out * 1959 and 1987 h...
