You may want to try a 12AU7 in either V1(input) or V4(phase Inverter) and see if that cleans up the gain.. or.. if you're not using the effects loop, use it as a pre-PI gain adjustment. I’ve used NOS Genelex, the new Electro Harmonics made “Gold Lion’ and the Valve Art/Marshall branded ones. No issues with installing them in my combo.. It’s tight, but they fit!
