Re: Reminder of what tubes install in the 1 watt amps

Perfect timing! I've never had a "bedroom" amp actually in my bedroom before. Sold the old farm house for a house on the water, and have a condo near the office. In the condo, I have the JTM-1H with a Vox 2x12 of Celestion Blues....and it occurred to me that it's time for a tube change. Why would y...

Bernie with the Astoria Custom

The video is about new fancy Les Pauls, but it really shows why I love the Custom so much. The amp just responds so well to changes in guitar settings.....

Re: Gut Shots and more Review of the Astoria Custom

It depends on the amp in my experience. The Vintage Modern sounded at its best for my taste with a few dB of clean boost in the loop (from a Creation Labs Mark 4:23 in my case). I actually just have on it all the time with that amp. With the Astoria, I don't do that, but I do kick on a clean boost i...

Re: Santiago leaves Marshall

When you do the math, the musical instrument biz is a tough one. I don't know anything about the people who were brought in at Marshall, and they may indeed be a bunch of clowns. But if the stated goal is to expand the business in terms of margins, overall revenue, shareholder value or whatever, the...

Re: Marshall Astoria Amps - Chappers goes Red & the Capt goes Blue

Huh... I like the Anderton's demos typically, but in this case, while the words seemed right on the mark, the sound didn't resemble what I get out of either amp. Not that I could do better in a youtube demo, but it didn't capture the essence of either amp in my opinion...

Re: Played A Dual Today Finally

I've had both for nearly 6 months now. They are in fact very different amps. For me personally, I still struggle a bit with the Dual....at least using it as a dual channel amp live anyway. The lead channel doesn't have a ton of gain on tap. I can get enough gain if I dime everything, but because of ...

Man, that sounds really great. What's the difference between the different profiles for the same amp? I know nothing about this stuff...

Funny thing is I was hoping that was you on the Mesa. Tone coming from that was much better placed in the mix for my taste (not the the JVM couldn't have been...just that it wasn't...)

Astoria Custom in it's natural habitat

The amp only gets better the more I play it out.

Re: Price of a second hand full stack?

Tried the amp this afternoon and it was a shocker... it is the exact amp that I was supposed to have bought a couple of months back... it was like I was in a twilight zone episode. How did I know? Because it has the same buzzing problem that I also posted here. I was ready to buy it but... oh my......

Re: Price of a second hand full stack?

Why, Ike, what exactly do you mean? Hi Bijou, Yeah...the statement is probably too sweeping, but it's how I feel about it. Regarding the "best playing" Marshall comment, that's through the lens of course of my personal tastes, etc. But, of all the amps I have (and I have a few), it creates the "bes...

Re: Price of a second hand full stack?

I'll third that notion. The price seems good, and if it's in good shape, it sounds like a good deal. The magic of this amp shines when it's cranked. I do on occasion play it live (though not through the matching cabs) but I use it for a pedal platform in that case. It really depends on what you plan...

Re: how many amps do you own

I own a bunch. Lots of Marshalls and lots of other stuff too. Since I received the Astoria Custom though, the rest of them don't get turned on much. If I was into recording, that would probably be different. But as great as the 6100 is, and as great as the 45/100 is, and as great as the VM is, and a...

Re: Volume drop when FX loop engaged...wtf?

Actually, not a big deal at all in my opinion if you're comfortable with the idea of using a soldering iron. The effects board is very accessible and easy to remove, and FET3 (the component that you will be replacing) is clearly labeled. The part costs a couple of bucks. If you are in the UK, you ca...
