Re: Reverb does not start at the first power on

Try contacting Marshall's spares department direct.

I believe it's REVERB-00012, but check that to confirm.

You really need to get the amp looked at to make sure it is the actual PCB first.

Re: Gut shot of my Astoria Combo

Steve; The +/- 15v supply I'm guessing is for the switching, loop and boost. What is the 4700v/100v doing? My amp got knocked the other day and that cap broke (C26). The negative lead broke and the back panel broke/cracked.. Marshall is going to make me a new one after the Holiday, but just wonderi...

Re: Reverb does not start at the first power on

It may need a new reverb PCB.

Have you scoped the source of the buzz?

Have you tried replacing the Dual Master Volume pot itself?

Re: Extra gain stage

I am not sure tbh… i would ask the manufacturer if it works with the VM… I assumed it worked with any tube amp… It's designed to work with amps that have cathode follower tone circuits. That is not 'any amp' The Vintage Modern does have a CF tone circuit (V3) so it should work by their reckoning.

Re: Extra gain stage

Hi there, I'm planning to add an extra 12AX7 gain stage to my 2266 head between V1 & V2 so I can use it in both dynamic ranges. Was planning to make it a cold clipper stage to add a touch more overdrive, bringing the LDR closer to a 2203 level of gain & turning the HDR into a 4 stager. My only conc...

Re: NCD Late ‘70’s 1960A

The fret cloth isn't original. Great speakers. I have a 70s cab loaded with the same ones. Steve, The grill cloth sure looks original to me, old, weathered, faded, and torn. There was another cab (a year older cab) setting next to this one in the shop where I bought the cabinet and the cloth on tha...

Re: Vintage Modern - Steve's Gain Mod

Angus, I honestly believe you should take your amp to a tech. You could ruin your amp if you have no idea what you're doing.

Re: Biasing Vintage Modern 2266C first time - advice?

Update: I tried the multimeter without manually adjusting it to AC, and got more recogniseable readings: around 33.0 I tweaked the trim pot and the multimeter currently displays 47.0 on both valves so, I'm hoping I'm on the right track, now. I will check it again later to see if it stays put. The d...

Re: 2266 EL34

The Vintage Modern will still work with EL34s if pins 1 and 8 haven't been shorted out. However, it will be working in tetrode mode, not pentode, and thus will suffer from a 'kink' in the response at the low end. The 5th element - the suppressor' was developed to mitigate this effect. The person who...

Re: One dead tube

The tone would have degraded, though it would have been more noticeable if the amp was cranked.
When you replace the valves it'll need a rebias. A check inside will confirm the health of the amp.

You could play around with reducing the value of R31. Maybe try from 4K7 down to 2K2.

Re: Astoria Custom HT fuse

I'm extremely busy today so can't really take any time at the moment for this. However I will revisit this post either later today, or tomorrow when I have more time. It would be very helpful if you could identify what has burned. Is the rectifier valve base OK. Frustrating that I can't just get it ...
