Have you tried replacing the Dual Master Volume pot itself?

I am not sure tbh… i would ask the manufacturer if it works with the VM… I assumed it worked with any tube amp… It's designed to work with amps that have cathode follower tone circuits. That is not 'any amp' The Vintage Modern does have a CF tone circuit (V3) so it should work by their reckoning.

Angus, I honestly believe you should take your amp to a tech. You could ruin your amp if you have no idea what you're doing.

Update: I tried the multimeter without manually adjusting it to AC, and got more recogniseable readings: around 33.0 I tweaked the trim pot and the multimeter currently displays 47.0 on both valves so, I'm hoping I'm on the right track, now. The tone would have degraded, though it would have been more noticeable if the amp was cranked.
When you replace the valves it'll need a rebias. A check inside will confirm the health of the amp.

You could play around with reducing the value of R31. Maybe try from 4K7 down to 2K2.
