Re: C5 Head... bright switch mod done (with crappy photos)

DOD, any pics. I would be interested to see how you did it, and the front panel.
How do you find the 120pf? Just a bit different than stock, or quite noticable?
I only really play humbucker guitars so for me the 120pf didnt do a great deal, just enought to warrant keeping it in.

Re: C5 Head... bright switch mod done (with crappy photos)

So this mod would be for someone who wanted to add some brightness to the C5 then? Yes. The difference is not night and day dramatic, but if you want a bit more brightness or 'sparkle' at lower cleaner volumes, then give it a go. I started at 120pf and went with 220pf, but you can have any range be...

Re: Speaker id help. Old Celestion (with photos)

Thanks for the info. Excellent. How i came by this speaker - About 25 years ago a friend had 4 quad boxes he was selling. They were all heavy solid Hiwatt cabs he thought. I got one cheap (about $200 i think), and at the time i didnt know much about speakers or cabs, so i pulled out the speakers in ...

Speaker id help. Old Celestion (with photos)

This speaker came out of a 70's straight guitar cab. It had 3 other Greenbacks, and this (i assume this speaker was a replacement for some reason). It measures 13.5 ohm (labeled as 15 ohm). http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq169/shaun500/P9030450.jpg http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq169/shaun5...

Re: I just had my best Marshall experience!

OK...you've convinced me. Now to find somewhere here in the US where I can order it (it's not listed at the usual online suspects...) Sweetwater is getting only 20 JMP1s and they said their list is twice that. I think your best bet is to network a few Marshall dealers to see who is getting one and ...

C5 Head... bright switch mod done (with crappy photos)

I tried out the bright/volume mod on my C5 head (with series 4 PCB). I basically loosened out the PCB so that i could get to the volume pot side if C13 and C9, connected some alligator clip leads to C13 and C9, then added a on/on switch to the other end of the clip leads. On the on/on switch i put a...

Re: C5 Head, volume pot bright mod..anyone done this?

DOD, thanks for the info. I am in Australia and shop at Jaycar electronics.
I am no electronics expert by any means, so is silver mica a brand name or style of cap? I know you can get ceramic, polyester (mylar), electrolytic etc.

C5 Head, volume pot bright mod..anyone done this?

I have version 4 PCB, 240 volt model. Has anyone tried jumpering a 120pf cap over the volume pot, lugs 1 and 2, OR across the vol pot sides of C13 and C9. I read about this on another forum. It is meant to add a bit of brightness at low volumes. If so, what type of cap (ceramic, polyester etc, and w...

Re: I just had my best Marshall experience!

I considered ordering the JMP1 over the JCM1, but i thought i could probably get the same tones out of a C5 head and an OD pedal (same as the JMP1 i mean). If i had gone with the JMP1 i would have still wanted the JCM1 anyway, and at the moment i cant afford both, so i just ordered the JCM1 Is the C...

1 Watt range now available to pre-order in Australia

This was the first store i came across, in Australia, that is taking orders for all 5 amps. http://www.musoscorner.com.au/ I have ordered my JCM1 head, and now the wait till June begins. :drool The prices in $AUD are $899- $999 for the heads, and add a bit more for the combo. I did note that the JMP...

New member, and new C5 Head... very happy

I was thinking about getting a C5, but all the clips i saw on Youtube just didnt really sound very good to me. I read a lot of negative reviews on another forum, and decided to try one out for myself. I tried a combo, and Gibson SG, and the louder i turned it up the better it got. Fully cranked i th...
