Re: JCM 800 Bass Cab 8x10

My english is too bad to explain, but there is a magic feeling in the stomach. Sigi Let me help Es klingt enorm, so groß wie meine Penis. Gerade wunderbar. Sigi, that magical feeling is probably just your guts being relocated by a JCM 800 superbass. My previous band rehearsed in a small room and bet...

Re: Taming the Class 5 Head a bit

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I think this one is interesting since I have done the same thing with mine. The Class 5 is a class A amp, so no phase inverter. V1 is the gain stages and V2 drives the tone stack. I put an ECC82 (12au7) in V2 and it sounds great. Dial the treble back, miss way up an...

Re: Zapped while doing vocals

Wow! Thanks guys! Sounds like I got incredibly lucky and I will definitely buy an outlet tester. Incidentally, when we got a different vocalist and drummer, our new vox guy and I shocked each other when I high dived him. Not enough to knock either of us down but enough where we both said Ouch. Sort ...

Zapped while doing vocals

In the first band I was ever in, I was elected to do the vocal duties (unfortunately for everybody who listened to us). I had the problem of getting shocked by the mic in rehearsals when I got too close. We grounded everything correctly and I use an MG100 to rehearse, which I would think would be le...

Re: Class 5 head into PA questions

I have a first generation Class 5 combo and the headphone out is stupid loud on mine. That being said I DOUBT it would damage a mixing board, but I really don't know for sure. It might overdrive the board a bit (I know computer sound cards don't like the Class 5 haha). A couple options I would sugge...

Re: 12au7 in 2204

Thanks! And I know what you mean. I have heard that even when they were new, no two of the older Marshalls ever sounded the same. I would imagine that is only more true after 24 years.

12au7 in 2204

Has anybody ever tried a lower gain tube such as a 12au7 or 12at7 in the V1 or V2 Preamp slots of a JCM 800? What happened? I put an ECC82 in the V2 slot of my Class 5 (store only had one ECC83) and was very pleased with the result. Much more linear gain path. I'm thinking of trying the same with my...

Re: help with settings please

Hi. I have never played a DSL but here are my general settings (I play heavy blues and classic rock). I use

Treble 2-4

Mids very high, between 7 and 9.5

Bass 4-5

Presence around 4-6

Pre and Master to taste.

Then play with the volume and tone knobs on the guitar.

The Stable. From left to right 1988 Marshall JCM 800 2204 on a late 70's blackback cab with small check grillcloth. The "ancient" sign is from an old school project and I didn't know it was there. Kind of funny though. 2007 Marshall MG100 with stock cabs. Don't hate. Who knows when it was made Adams...

M412 constructio.

I have an opportunity to pick up a M412B for pretty cheap. I am thinking about getting it to complete the stack under my JCM 800. Currently I am running a late 70s 1960A with Blackbacks. I got that cab for 300 and a Peavey cab on trade. If I got the M412 I would probably take the stock speakers an g...

Re: Thoughts on trading Bassman for VM

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to do it. I had the Bassman appraised yesterday and I was told around 500 for mine. In the past somebody ripped the tolex off and varnished the wood on the cabinet. Everybody at the shop I took it to said it looked cool but just for originality sake they couldn't say o...

Thoughts on trading Bassman for VM

Hi all. I have a 1967 Fender Bassman. It is one of the first of the drip edge amps but still has the 1966 circuit. I bought it about four years ago from somebody that sold the cabinet (for some reason) and not the head. Since the head wasn't loud enough as a bass amp in his band he sold it to me for...

Help identifying JCM 800 mod

Hello. I have a 1988 JCM 800 2204 that has had several modifications performed, and I am trying to find out more information about the amp. I purchased it in 2010 from a gentleman in Springfield, Illinois. He told me that there was a tube effects loop and a gain modification to the high input. He al...

Re: JCM 800 1 watter!

I've seen the demos of those and they look pretty cool. I just can't justify over $700 for a 1 watt amp. I mean I got my 2204 for less than that...
