Re: 1974x Weird Issue

With the levels pretty equal, "sound-wise", the Normal channel sounds just like it should, but the Trem channel crackles on the low Freq. when hitting the low E string from about the 4th-5th fret going down. I've swapped out the 12AX7 a couple of times as well as the Phase Inverter

1974x Weird Issue

My 2005 1974x has a strange problem.. when I plug into the normal channel it's fine.. When I plug into the Trem channel and with the volume about 1/2 way up, I get a crackling noise on the low end/low notes. Normal channel with the same settings, no problem! Swapped out the preamp valves, no differe...

Re: My little Gretsch collection!

Thanks! Which model is your 6120? I use to own one of the nitro finished, TV Jones loaded models. Back in the late 70’s I had a ‘58 6120 and a #6113(pre-Chet Tenny). My first Gretsch was a 1959 single Anniversary in sunburst and the a ‘65 Tennessean.

L-R: 1959 Project-o-Sonic Country Club, 1962 Country Club, 1960 Chet Atkins Country Gentalmen & 1964 Country Club. The Country Gent in the photo is the guitar hanging on the wall. It was in a calendar that a Canadian music shop put together. This guitar spent most of it's life in Halifax, Nova Scoti...

Re: Tom Murphy Lab Guitars

My ML R9 is pretty stellar! It's the best Les Paul I've played that wasn't vintage. I have a n umber of "Historic Makeovers", but the Murphy's are stunning! It is the most expensive guitar I've bought...

Murphy Lab R9

So a few months back(around July..) my curiosity was killing me about the new Murphy Lab guitars. I've had a number of "Historic Makeovers" for the last 14 years and those really transformed my guitars, however.. The process in which Gibson could use Hide Glue to do the maple tops to the mahogany ba...

Re: Speaker change in a 1974x - f.e. Alnico Blue

I put a cream alnico in my old MusicMan RD100. Those originally came with an EV. I like it with the Cream and it weighs alot less and sounds so much better!

Re: 2061x issue..

The issue turned out to be the Smoothing can. It was 15 years old and I'm guessing that it sat for the first 10-12 years, un-used and the electrolyte dried out. I changed out that can and it cure the issues!

Re: Gut shot of my Astoria Combo

I just used my Astoria Custom head at Rehearsal. I ordered a 4700 uf/63v cap from CE Dist(Antique Electronics wholesale div.). I just wanted to use the combo but will wait until a replacement cap gets here.. Never let your drummer help move your gear....He had loaded it up on a flat dolly and it fel...

Re: Gut shot of my Astoria Combo

Steve; The +/- 15v supply I'm guessing is for the switching, loop and boost. What is the 4700v/100v doing? My amp got knocked the other day and that cap broke (C26). The negative lead broke and the back panel broke/cracked.. Marshall is going to make me a new one after the Holiday, but just wonderin...
