Re: Fisher 500T

This must be the first year for the tranny(transistor) series! I have three ( valve) models… an 101X, a 500 and a 800c! Great stuff!!

Re: NAD 1974HW

I think that the tone stack component values can be changed to give you more of what you want. Iknow about 5 years ago I had a customers #1958 combo in my shop. When I got done changing out the original smoothing(filter) caps, I plugged it in and wondered why it sounded better than my #1974. My #197...

Re: Can Astorias handle running KT88's

I think the issue with the KT88's is an impedance mis-match versus the output valves and the output tranny.

Re: Brimar 6V6 tubes

The other choice would be a set of NOS 5881's. You can usually find then very reasonably priced.

You could play around with reducing the value of R31. Maybe try from 4K7 down to 2K2.
Thanks Steve!

Very nice rigs!! I'd have to hit that 73X with a Treble Booster.
No, take it to a good tech and have him do the Tone control like an early `60's brown Fender Deluxe. Involves only a couple of cap changes, easy! I can't use the Tone control on my 1974x above noon with humbuckings. Plenty bright!

I don't think Marshall offers the 1974cx ext. cab anymore..

Re: Speaker change in a 1974x - f.e. Alnico Blue

I don't see any issues with using the Alnico Blue with the 1974x. These speakers are under-rated. I've put 20-25watts into a Blue w/o any problem. If I didn't have the old 15 watt Rola in mine I'd have a Blue in it. The Ruby's are great and the same price, but they take along time to break-in. The o...

Anyway to Convert The Power Reduction to 1/2 power?

I'm guessing that this might be more for Steve, But I was wanting to change the Power Reduction to 1/2 power instead of 5 watts. I'd like a little more power to use in a live situation where 30 watts is too much and 5 watts isn't near enough.. Starting to Gig again! I've got 6 gigs over the next 5 w...

Re: 5U4GB

I guess I'm lucky as I bought a number of NOS Mullard GZ34's back in the late `80's/early `90's for $35.00 each. I also have some used ones I got in the 80's that still work great. Mullard GZ-34's are, to me, worth every penny. Like M.O.Valve KT66's use to be $100. for a pair. Now they're $700. But ...

Re: Microphonic valve...... only when guitar volume near full

I would try a piece of shrink tubing over the valve and see if that cures the offending valve of it's problem!

Re: What causes The Boost Light to Flicker In the Astoria Custom??

No problem! Just figured it doesn’t hurt to ask! Marshall’s like a lot of manufacturers now whereas they have some sub-assemblies made elsewhere and shipped in and assembled in the main place. Vox did that back in the Sixties, they had 3 different chassis assembly places and 3 different cabinet make...

Re: What causes The Boost Light to Flicker In the Astoria Custom??

When I first did the Astoria amps I proposed that the footswitch was to be a bit special too, not just the proprietry type Marshall supply with their amps. Something a bit more classy looking. I still believe that would have been the way to go. I was overruled on that one and told to design the con...

`60's Premier (Multivox) Reverb Unit

I got this old Premier unit a few weeks back. Sounds pretty nice except it sounds like the springs are slightly vibrating as it has like a ticking noise. All the Electrolytic smoothing(filter) caps have been replaced, the AC Mains cable swapped to an earthed (grounded) cable and some of the signal p...

2266C Weird Issue-ticking😳 Steve.. Help..

Hi Steve, I have a 2266C here in my shop. The amp develops a ticking when the Reverb control isn’t turned up... sounds just like a wrist watch ticking but is the frequency of a G on the 5th fret, D string. Turn the pot off and no ticking, turn it up and there it is.. (Yeah, I know, don’t turn it on....
