Re: Major Hate going

I agree with the comments in this forum, sound is subjective and what one person likes another may not. I read the comments in the other forum and took exception to the opinions being passed and the way they were passed, however, although I loved my Class 5 the way Marshall sent it out, for me it ne...

Re: Class 5 Hum

Hi djw171 - Yes I agree, after having the thing in bits today and checking all the grounds, PSU, cabling, ran the soldering iron over it in case of any dry joints etc. again changed Tubes for a known good set, my 'Little Beastie' still hasn't learnt the words and hums along. I changed the route of t...

Re: Class 5 Hum

As suggested I went to a dealer who has a MK1 with the three piece back, so similar to mine, I asked to listen to it with no Guitar, silent, as one would expect, so mine has a fault of some description which has always been present. I'll investigate further, but without a scope to see what is happen...

Re: Class 5 Hum

The problem is with the Amp not the supply or location, my Fender 1976 Twin Reverb is fine in the same room on the same supply, as is my Boogie Mk3, just the Marshall suffers with the hum, I have tried it at other locations and it's the same. I also have a DSL100, but that also is very bad on Hum, b...

Re: Class 5 Hum

Hi djw171 - Thanks for the info, mine is about the same age as yours then, I work the next road up from the Marshall factory, in Bletchley UK. The amp went back the day after I purchased it due to what was probably the rattle problem, they said it was a bad Valve and bad speaker, they replaced both,...

Re: Class 5 Hum

Thanks for taking the time to reply - Hum is present with no Guitar plugged in, doesn't change when a Guitar is plugged in, amp is earthed correctly and there is no source of electrical interference nearby. Have tried new set of valves (Tubes), same result. Interesting that the two replies posted to...

Class 5 Hum

Hi all - My Class 5 has, and always has had a hum which does come through the speakers; you can not fail to notice when it is turned on. It doesn't change much with volume, but is always there, I find it very annoying, especially when using headphones. I would like to try and get rid of this hum, bu...

Re: Class 5 Input Impedance and other Mods

Hi All, I can now report that I have completed the modifications as described in this thread and the results to my ears are fantastic, for my Les Paul with P90's I can now turn down the volumes and control the amp this way, without it going seriously muddy at any volume, even the Tone Controls can n...

Re: Class 5 Input Impedance and other Mods

Hi Steve - thanks for your comments, any suggestions for Cap values to start with for those locations? I was trying to keep the modifications I was doing to a minimum as the amp to be fair is not far off what I wanted. As the volume goes up it's much less of a problem, it's mainly at lower volumes w...

Class 5 Input Impedance and other Mods

I have been looking at a number of mods that people have done to their Class 5, some of the things they complain about I agree with, and some I don't. It seems some are trying to make their Class 5 a Plexi, which I understand Marshall were not directly trying to emulate, and some just want to change...

Re: Great Tone but treble drops off with Guitar Volume, why?

Thanks to those that replied, but you have all missed the point thus far. What I am saying is that with other amps, for example my Marshall DSL 100, I have no issues, yes the treble does roll off with this amp too, but in a nice slow way which is very usable. With the Class 5 it rolls off very quick...

Re: Great Tone but treble drops off with Guitar Volume, why?

Sorry but modifying a perfectly good guitar that works very well with my other amps to sort out a shortfall in the Class 5 is not a sensible option. I already use pedals, this is why I don't need or want to crank the Class 5 to "infinity and beyond", it's the clean(ish) sounds I love and want to kee...

Great Tone but treble drops off with Guitar Volume, why?

Am I the only person who has a Class 5 that loves the clean tones of this amp, especially when it just starts to break up? Every YouTube Video I see is of heavy distortion or cranking the thing to the limit, but actually I really love the tone of this amp when it is not cranked to the limit, however...

Re: Is this marshalls rattle fix?

I contacted Marshall via their web site, they said bring it in, or they can arrange collection, and they will do all the updates, as I work just up the road from the factory I did just that. True to their word, they did all the updates for free and even gave me my old back panel back as they were no...

Re: Is this marshalls rattle fix?

This looks like a much better fix than many I have seen. I have an original Class5 with the one piece back, it's never rattled but it is starting to sound like the valve (Tube) is showing signs of the problem. I replaced the original Marshall as that did have problems with rattles and buzzes. So how...
