My DSL100 from new has always had a hum, probably 50Hz at a guess; the mains transformers are very noisy mechanically, when the stand-by is off, you can really hear the transformer hum, but with no instrument plugged in and the amp fully powered up, there is quite a hum coming from the speakers. This is not a criticism of Marshall as sound is a very personal thing, but I found my Class 5 to be very boxy sounding. OK I have some other amps which I'm comparing against Marshall DSL 100 with 4 x 12 1960AV cab, a Messa Boggie Mk3 1 x 12 combo and a very old Fender Twin Reverb with 2 x 12 JBL's. ...

Class 5 worth the faults - great little amp

I have had my Class 5 for a while now (UK purchase in early October 09) and have had no rattles or other problems, but it did have to go back to the factory after just one day. I'm lucky as I work a couple of 100 Yards from the factory, so I took it to the service dept and they fixed it the same day...
