Re: Trashed 6100 full rehab

Awesome work, this was a bit out of the scope of what you normally would do. After all the trouble shooting you have done on the bench and online, with these amps, I am honestly not super surprised this boat anchor is an amp again. We need another 6100 enthusiast that can pick up the iron when you a...

Re: NAD - Marshall 2266C with some "mods"

Necessity is the mother of invention. Nice work on everything including your Mods. On a interesting side note, my main store I by from locally and where I found my 425A is "N' Stuff.

Marshall Stereo/Mono Speaker Jack

I just thought that I would post up an issue I had with a Marshall ROHS jack I have in my 425A cab. Just in case someone comes looking for a fix. My jack was working intermittently and I was thinking maybe some weak solder joints or a bad switch. Many solder points ended up being broken. I just re-f...

Vintage Modern 425A

I was finally able to find a 425 cab locally. It was not on the best of shape but was salvageable. The grill cloth had mold across the bottom. Lightly spraying the cloth with cleaning grade vinegar works to neutralize the mold while also watering down dust. If you are seeing mold spots on your cab, ...

Re: Time to Give Martin Another Look - Road Series

They sound a bit boomy with that mic setup, especially the first one. On a good note, they do still retain the some of dreadnought sound though.

Re: Midnight Runaway

These old 3DN albums are pretty easy to come by. I did listen to them a bit 35+ years ago, they do have some good music. I tried again recently and wasn't super pleased with the records I had. I would have to say though that they probably had songs for the record picked by the record company and pro...

Re: Jtm45 tube swap

I bought TAD for an amp at the beginning of the year. I believe TAD has switched manufacturers. Their preferred one has closed due to a fire. If I am not mistaken, the red base tubes and "STR" designation are from the new manufacturer, otherwise Identical, at least with the 6l6GC.

Re: NAD. Germino Lead 55LV

There is something to be said for a non master tube amp. The dynamic range is pretty amazing. From clean or cleanish to screaming with just picking dynamics. On top of that the volume knob on the guitar. I find myself playing my Vibrolux or Super-Sonic 60 for much longer than anticipated. It makes m...

Re: Better Off Alone

This band is writing some pretty decent music. It fits right in line with the last band I was in. The song below really shows that the singers ability to sing is just incredible. Over all, the band needs to work on their stage presence, keep writing more and dial in their sound. This singer is impre...

Re: Re-fret or dress?

If you plan on keeping it for life, just do what you think is the right thing to do. If it is an investment thing, if you wait to long or if the binding has aged, it will never match. Secondly if there aren't any nibs after refrett is will scare away buyers. If it were me, I would wait till it is an...

Re: These valves ok?

I use the Chinese tubes in the cathode follower positions in my amps. I have reported no failures in that position, solid reliability for me anyway.

Fender Band Master Over Sized 2x12 Speaker Cabinet

Anyone with experience with Fender "squat" cabs from the 70's? The bigger cab of the "squat" seems like it could be a bit boomy because of the size. The price seems right though even with non original speakers. I have been having trouble finding info on these and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
