I think what they are calling a learning curve you are referring to as evolution. Just a difference in terminology.
I can appreciate what they are saying, you learn what settings you do and don't like; what works with your guitar and pedals. I've been through this many times myself.

Mine is very dim now, it's visibly dim, but not as retina-searing bright as it used to be. It sometimes flickers when I play also. I don't know whether it could be a dodgy connection or not?
