2061x issue..

I’m wondering if I should’ve left it alone.. I put a small 7H choke in my 2061x I place of the 470 ohm resistor across the dual 50uf/ 500v can cap. Since I put it in, the amp works great for 5 minutes and then it starts to loose volume after that. Goes from 20 watts to 8-9 watts.. comments.. observa...

Re: JTM45 Fit Into A 24" Box?

Bruce, it should fit. Measure the height of the chassis to see if the tubes will clear the inside of the box.

Re: 1996 JTM50 Tremolo Bluesbreaker RI

I had a 1989 model. It was from the first run. The baffle was right against the old M.O.Valve KT-66’s I had. I actually got my Dremel and routed about 1/4” into the wood so the Valves would have some room..

2061x questions

I just got a 2061x about a month back at a great price. Looks like new but is from mid-2005. I've never owned one of these new or original, but not sure on how these sound vs the 1974x. I got my 1974x back in 2005 as well. The tone controls work pretty well for me, but the 2061 is a tad dark and lac...

Re: NAD 1974x

Try one of George’s(metro amps) Supa-Boost! It’s not like a T- screamer or the hundreds of other similar TS-9 copies out there. This sounds almost exactly like a Plexi 45/100 and you can run it at unity gain or use it as a boost. It is not an overdrive, but you can overdrive your amp very nicely usi...

Re: Astoria Custom - Andertons combo deal 999 gbp

After my first Astoria last week from guitarguitar I could not resist ordering a second one :-) Damn these are good amps. I have owned a lot of Marshalls since the late 80ties but the last years I only kept the 2555 and a handwired 1958x but rarely played them. After getting the Astoria Custom it i...

Re: When did this happen??

Sound City’s were designed by Dave Reeves who went onto create, design & build the original HiWatt’s. Sound City’s were an offshoot of Sound City Music shoppe which became Arbiter’s! Dave Reeves left to build his own amps that became HiWatt! I know Stevie Fryette has the rights to build/produce Soun...

Re: Jimmy Page Signature Amp

I believe Jimmy's primary recording amplifier was a VOX AC30. where’d you hear that one? I know Mitch Colby very well and this amp was the result of an idea that Perry had and brought Mitch into it. Mitch had also helped restore one of Jimmy’s original 100 watt Marshall’s. Mitch was VP of Product D...

Re: Gec Kt66 in Dual red-plating

I don’t think that the B&K tests the valves at high voltage. High voltage is needed to test any valve in a “real world” application. Find someone with an Orange VT1000 Valve Tester as that would be a better scenario vs an old tube tester made for low voltage applications.

Re: Marshall Astoria AST3H doesn't like 12AT7's in PI position

Maybe do like Vox did in the Sixties and use a 12AU7 there. The JMI era Vox AC50 & AC100 used 12AU7’s for more headroom!

Re: NAD Astoria Custom

The Astoria Custom is a badass. Run the master up high and crank up the edge control. To me its a very different Marshall sound, and a great one at that. The amp looks very nice. Enjoy. It’s a lot in the original Vox AC50 type sound to me since the early AC50’s were Cathode Biased but used EL34’s. ...

Re: Can Astorias handle running KT88's

I have some slightly used M.O.Valve KT-88’s, slightly used Mullard EL34 from the 70’s, some NOS Mullard EL37’s & NOS M.O.Valve KT66’s. I’ve tried the EL37’s and didn’t like them compared to the KT66’s. I haven’t tried the KT88’s. I’d like to try the old RCA 6L6’s I have as well as the NOS 5881’s... ...
