2x12 cab speakers

Postby goodlife » 26 Nov 2013, 04:51

Need some advice.

Have a vm2266

Looking to get a MX212 that has seventy 80s in it but will replace one with a creamback i have.

Qu. Keep the seventy80 in there with the creamback or get another creamback or put a vintage 30 in there with the creamback.

I play lead in 4 piece , singer plays rythmn through a jvm 205c so i'm very keen to ensure my lead work cuts through in live setting. I read somewhere that the vin30 cuts through ?

Suggestions ?

Thanks

Is there and reason why you are looking to get the MX212 cabinet? The thing you will have to be careful of is the ohms of that cabinet. 16 & 8 ohms are provided for the 2266 head, if the cabinet is 4 ohms you will need to change the tap on the amps transformer which can easily be done.

Also if you mix a Creamback you will have to ensure the ohm rating will match with the other speaker. I personally would recommend against this. There are many other 2x12 cabinets that would provide a better option for this amp, you can buy a 2x12 with Vintage 30s already.

+1 on What Surf mentioned.

You could also just look at empty cabs. Avatar comes to mind. Or a 2-12 with v30-s and experiment and sell the one speaker you do not use.

What about a 1-12 cab with the Creamback?

Is that MX cab made with particle board or Birch plywood?

Thanks for replies. I'm an elec eng so all over the electronics (ohms) aspect. The seventy 80's are each 16 ohm as is the creamback. Any vin30 purchase would needto be 16ohm as well.

The mx212 is mdf wood and only $350 withe the two seventy80 onboard, but i'm only really buyinh it for the cab to match vm2266 (size wise). I dont want a 112 or 412.

The other marshall 212's with v30's are $750 here in australia so u can see the appeal of the mx212, particularly since i already own the creamback. . Since i only play live maybe 6 times a year the mdf 212 will be fine.

I did not know your location. Makes sense.

If you are handy, could get all materials and a V30 and make a cab for $150.

There are some cabs made in Asia by Harley Benton, they have a very affordable 2-12 V30 cab. Not sure on shipping or any distributors in your country.

70-80 are generally more of a mid level, budget model speaker. In the end though, if it sounds good then its good.

Good luck!

My favorites are V30s, Lynchbacks and Creambacks in a 212.

I'm running my VM 2266 through 70/80s. The sound is okay, however far away from Greenbacks IMO. I'll be upgrading to Greenbacks soon, as I think they're just the best match for the VM. The 70/80s sound a little.. sterile, they lack the mojo.
