Lot of crack when fx loop is engaged

Postby Nico-Slunkk » 06 May 2017, 18:25

Hi everybody,
I've done a concert just now. I was embarrased because of a lot of crack when my fx loop is engaged.
When I switch off the fx loop, I'ts gonna be ok.
What 's going on ?
If anybody can help me ?
Power tube are new and preamp mostly. Anyway, if it was a tube problem, it should happen without the fx loop also ?
Thanks for your help.

Hi. I have had all type of problems with the reverb and fx loop on my VM, because I connected an attenuator in bad way. Still have problems and I decide replace the FX board and the reverb board. You can buy it on Thomann.
I don't know but you can do some tests. Could be the reverb board. Try to make a reset on the reverb. Stopping the power switch with all the amp in on. If the noise persist disasembly the amp take out the reverb board. Be careful is very delicate, you could break something if you are not careful and doesn't have experience with this things. Try the amp. If the noise desapairs install again the reverb board. Probably you fixed. My reverb board after a while time appears the noise again on the reverb and sometimes doesn't works. I need to make to many resets.
The FET's on the FX board and many others components can make noise too. I'm not an amp tech.
:whatever. SORRY for english level

That would be entirely dependent on whether the crack was "cocaine" or "ass"...... :bgrin

Ok, I almost fixed the problem.
In fact I just disengaged the fx loop... So I put all my effects in front of the amp... and it works well.
My phaser sound better, my delay (numerique) a little less but good enough, my boost become... an unboost.
I remember a post before who said that Steeve D. wouldn't have an fx loop and Marshall (Jim ?) wanted one. Well Steeve was right it's good enough without using the fx loop.
But, if I want a durable repair I think (after some research) to replace FET and if I need to change one, maybe I 'll change all the three. I hope it will work.
And remember crack isn't good for health... sex is better.

Good luck with the tn2404kl part number. I can't find any cross reference for it here in the states, but when you compare the data sheets there are other parts that should work. The closest i can come up with is VN2104. Compare the data sheets.

Problem solved,
I brought my amp to a tech.
First he check the solders... some of them where dry.
He replace also one jack from the efx loop.
And now everything's allright.
Let's go to rock !!!

One month after buying mine in 2009, a transistor on my FX Loop (I think it was nº3) just died. Apparently this was happening to many units. As a consequence, my Loop didn´t work at all.

After replacing it with a better part (Marshall was recommending a different transistor reference), the issue was gone for good until today. And my loop is very quiet and works. I wish all the loops in other amps were like this one !
