Steve Stevens using Vintage Moderns in concert

Postby MKB » 06 Aug 2014, 07:53

Hi all, don't know if this is old news or not, but in this video of a Steve Stevens acoustic guitar solo in 2012, he has a few VM's behind him in the backline.

No secret the Vintage Modern is a excellent for acoustic Amplification. Steve has his own signature amp by Friedman.

Because there are companies that supply for very specific demands now, so players tend to go that route, for most players now that want a marshall sound they'll usually go for a wizard or Friedman or something along those lines (in the us at least) rather than going for a straight marshall.. This could be for a number of reasons but price points are similar and they give you the classic hot rodded marshall sounds out of the box, and with the exception of the jub, afd and yjm I don't think marshall has ever really nailed that themselves
les Paul -> cry baby -> mxr/CAE boost/line driver -> mxr m77 super bad ass modified OD -> marshall 2266 front end ->loop -> TC flashback delay -> mxr 10 band EQ -> marshall sv-1 chorus -> loop return -> marshall mf280a 4x12 cab

Does the Wizard have some kind of inbuilt sttenuator. I saw some Lynyrd Skynyrd clip and Ricky Medlocke was using them. I don't really agree that the Jub and AFD nails the hot rodded old Marshall tone more than the other Marshalls. Not sure if the Wizard and Friedman really does either. But they build what the players wants perhaps.

Note that he's playing his guitar synth (he's an early Roland adopter) in this solo - no VMs used.

The acoustic solo video was the only one I could find in a quick search, but that was in a Billy Idol concert, so he surely played electric at some time on that stage. The video was just to show the VM's on stage mainly.

Very often they don't use what you see on stage.
