Bigboss: First, welcome to the VM family. Second, you cannot make such a strong statement without having someone like me requesting the settings that delivered awesome classic rock results. So please consider this my humble settings request from a fellow SG player. Thanks.
Lol ohh ok ehhh mmmm everything cranked ,,,,,,,, seriously I've put the amp away lol but preamps were at 5 and 7 , treble 8 , mid 8 , bass 5 , presence bout 9 I think . That's just off the top of my head . What I do like is how the amp responds to your input the more attack you give etc and the volume of your guitar
And the more the master goes up it just gets sooooooo good

Always been a 4x12 guy and owned a lot of vintage
gear including old Plexi's with Pre Rola loaded cabs
and still dig them but those VM's are awesome amps!

When you do a search , you hear a lot of combo bashing
and noisy C and H amps till you find the right one but my combo
has a 3D warm woody tone that just can't stop me from playing!
and also very quiet .

Didn't like it when I got it but when I took off the
back panel , all the candy came out of the box .

If you combo owner's wanna hear your's sound good ,
just take the BP off and sit in front of the amp like an Indian and tilt it
with a pedal or some kind of shim and you will really hear how it sounds.

I've played a 4K JMI AC30 the other day that was rattleing like hell
but mine holds up quite good at hight volumes with no rattles for an $850 used mint 2266C
very surprised for a 2x12.

Don't forget that when you play a 4x12 angled cab ,
you have a lot of sound shooting at you but if you're standing up ,
a 2x12's projection is very low so try what I say and sit down in front of it
and tilt it with the back panel removed and let me know what you think !

And if you play with HB's and want nice Kossoff tones ,
try this setting .

Body 2.5
Detail 1 to 1.5 depending on guitar
Treble 0
Mid 5.5
Bass 4
Pres. 0
Master 1.5 Bedroom ......ad for more volume
Reverb 1.5

HDR .....on
Mid Boost.....on

Cheers. !!

Lou

Great post there Lou . Yea combo bashing is a favourite past time in some places I guess . I'll try your kossof settings . I actually got my 2266 c for a bargain £280 here in the UK and it's in excellent condition . I just had to buy it at that price

Bigboss. I tried you settings last night with the LP. Meh. But today with the SG, it sounded great. I did cheat at times by using the Sl Drive/EP Booster/Suhr KokoBoost in various combinations.

Got my JMD50 today my second Marsall. had this amp and the gain was very weak, but I see people rave about it and surprises me. Played a volume where I literally turned up to 11!! Still no cigar and had trouble selling it, good luck on your model mate.

Well I guess this amp isn't for everyone if it's high gain you want there are loads of others amps that do way more . I had a peavey 6505 before this and yep it was a gain monster but that was it , the amp didn't offer anything more for me . The vintage modern has a great gain sound and cleans to are warm how I like em . If I need a bit more gain I just need to use a boost or distortion pedal so yea I'm happy with that .

Good on ya, ha ha I was gutted as listened to Maiden, Jovi, Zepp, AC/DC, Slash and forever heard about the Marsall roar, didn't really know much about tube amps and was my first Marsall, remeber plugging in Back to the Future style and turning gain up....massive disappointment, irony is I don't play that much high gain now in my band and buy a JMD my second Marshall, hopefully this one stays..
