GAZ wrote:Hi guys, well today i have finally received another amp from marshall. I must say i am extremely pleased with this one, all leads and documentation are there and its in perfect working order. This amp sparkles!! you can tell its brand spanking new. Not a mark on it. Absolutely spotless. The way a new amp should look. So Fair play to the dealer and to marshall, they delivered in the end. comparing this amp to the one i received the beginning of september its quite obvious i was sent ex demo stock and in all fairness this is not good, when you pay your hard earned cash out you expect new, Thats what your paying for. If i had wanted to get a used/ ex demo model i would have done, and a fair bit cheaper too. One other thing that annoys me and its not just with amps its with electrical goods in general when you buy new and you get it home to find out its faulty why is it sent for repair?? You have paid for new so it should be replaced straight away. Not sent away for repair at your inconvenience. Anyway enough of my whinging i got my amp and thats all that matters now. Im chuffed to bits with it, sounds absolutely brill. p.s. anyone got any settings for a malmsteen type sound?? cheers!!!!
Glad it all worked out for you in the end GAZ. :)

Regarding Yngwie, you must use the same or similar preamp booster pedal that he uses in conjunction with a noise gate to get his sound. I ended up setting the Body and Detail to about 1 0'clock for him when he played a 2466 here for the first time, Master Volume about 2 to 3 o'clock, I can't remember where I set the EQs. Sounded great but of course he is a great player and has it in the hands.

I played his guitar and it has a brass nut which gives a very bright characteristic to the tone which would be good for articulation and clarity when playing fast with heavy distortion, which he does of course. :wink:

Hi steve, thanks for the advice!! did he use his dod pedal or was that just the amp settings to get near his tone? i have got a malmsteen strat with a dod 308 signature pedal but i dont think this pedal comes anywhere near his tone! but i do know a lot of his tone is in his fingers. i would love a vintage grey dod 250 but they are just sooo expensive. would i set the pedal up on low or high dynamic range? I Met yngwie years ago he was doing a gig at london hammersmith, me and a friend bumped into him in a back street pub, he was really cool, bought us a beer, told us about when he smashed his jag, the guy was so down to earth i could,nt believe it. oh and i would just like to congratulate you on such an awesome sounding amp!!

On the day I was with him he used his preamp and a Boss noise gate pedal into the 2466 on High Dynamic range with the settings I mentioned, but that photo in Mety's post is from one of his gigs shortly afterwards.

This is very interesting in that I've read that Yngwie is a die-hard 50W amp user, but he's using a 2466. So, with the settings in the pic, he is on high dynamic range also? Wow!! He'd better have a noise gate; that much gain being driven by a distortion box with a Strat would be a bit noisy to say the least!! I ran a Strat like that once, into a Tube Driver then into a JCM800 2204, it was UNUSABLE without a noise gate.

Yngwies strats have the DiMarzio HS-3s and YJM hum cancelling pickups and they are not noisier than humbuckers. He's also quite skilled when it comes to using the volume knob on the guitar so he has no problems handling the high gain. :)

I think the low dynamic range should be closer to what Yngwie uses normally (early 70's non-master volume heads, both volume controls on 10). Also the DiMarzio pickups are very low output so the YJM308/DOD250 overdrive must be set on full gain and level.

Btw, the settings on the picture aren't necessarily correct since the amp wasn't even plugged in during the show....
Strat -> YJM308 -> 2266/DSL50 -> 4x12

Thanks for the help Classic Rock. I finally got ahold of the seller and he refunded, so everything is cool now.
