zakk pushes his JCM 800 (on crunch channel) with his MXR ZW 44 pedal. pedal is on all the time.
you can use BOSS SD1 (Zakk used this prior his mxr pedal).

use your wah pedal for solo

his pre-amp is on 10..
would this be the same as putting the high and body on 10, using high dynamic range and boost off ?

Try those settings with the Detail quite high, maybe about 7 or 8 (or more if that's what it takes), then bring in the body control as required.
Use the high dynamic range, mid boost out.
Although the Vintage Modern has more gain than a 2203 (Zakk's amp) you may still find you have to use some sort of overdrive pedal to shape the tone.
Of course, your master volume setting matters too, I notice from the pic that Zakk's is on 4.

'and make sure to use active EMG Pickup '

Are those essential for the harmonic squeals ?

No, they aren't.
But that's what Zakk uses, so nobita21 was pointing out that they are part of his sound.

Isn't the Detail/Body knobs like the Master Volume of a non-Master Volume amp?? Like, if this were a JTM45, wouldn't the Detail/Body be the Mater Volume??

I'm a little confused by your question. A non-Master Volume amp (like the JTM45) has no Master Volume. The Detail & Body of the VM do work similarly to the seperate channel preamp volumes on the JTM45 when the channels are linked. One being brighter & one being bassier. The preamps on the VM of course are much more dynamic in their effect as well as having much more available gain than the JTM45.

I hope this helps.

to get his harmonic pinch harmonic....

the easiest ways are to use an OD pedal (either his MXR pedal or Boss SD1) and use active pickup.

using EMG active will make it way more easier to to hit the pinch harmonic (compared to normal pickup)

Hey Jamie...
I would get whatever overdrive and distortion pedals you can get your hands on... beg, borrow, steal and test them all. See which one makes the VM sing to you. Getting pinched harmonics is a technique thing but a pedal will help of course. Zakk Wylde's sound is in his fingers. His attitude and the way he approaches the instrument... it's not just about gear and settings. Go for your sound and have fun!
